parking at canberra hospital

Thought you might like this picture for the parking hall of fame, taken yesterday afternoon (30/3/2012) at Canberra Hospital.

I found it interesting that parking inspectors were ticketing cars parked in permit zones but this offence was ticket free!!

Serious question #2.

How come i got a defect notice parkinig in a private carpark?

Seriously? You need to ask? Why would you think that because you’re in a private car park, that your defective car would be overlooked? If you hit another car while parking, would you also just drive off without leaving details, seeing as you were in a private car park?

Depending on where you were parked, regular ACT parking inspectors may be patrolling and issuing tickets as well. There are a number of open air car parks in the city that are now privately operated, but parking inspectors still patrol them (my understanding is the carpark owner pays for this to happen), so privately owned doesn’t always mean parking inspectors just walk on by.

It unfortuantely can be more annoying than that. I have been in that situation where, a person parks their car so far over, that if I want to park at all – I have to end up moving over a bit too. Then the tosser leaves, and my car looks bad. It’s hard to judge something like that – mind, I only have done it when it’s a little bit over. Rather find another spot if it was as bad as that. Sounds like a total idjut who can’t drive properly… they some to come out often on ACT roads. (Especially weekends…)

Well said – totally agree.

Because your car is defective

I was once in a car park chatting to mates when a cop was driving slowly up and down the lanes and stopping every now and then. When he got to us we found out he was issuing infringements for obscured or otherwise unreadable plates and giving warning notices to those that were borderline.

Serious Question: is it actually an offence, or just bad etiquette?

http://www.rego.act.gov.au/parking/parkingrules.htm
“Parking Rules

Examples of where it is illegal to stop or park your vehicle are:

so that any part of the vehicle overhangs any line marking or parking space/bay; or
anywhere other than in a marked bay in a car park marked into bays….”

From http://www.rego.act.gov.au/parking/parkingrules.htm

“Examples of where it is illegal to stop or park your vehicle are:

on a taxi rank or bus stop;
in a “No Stopping” zone;
in a “No Parking” zone; (you can stop but not park)
on a traffic island, the median strip or plantation in a divided carriageway;
in a loading zone unless you have an approved loading zone parking permit or the vehicle is specifically permitted to use the loading zone;
across any passage, thoroughfare, entrance, driveway or foot crossing;
so that any part of the vehicle overhangs any line marking or parking space/bay;or
anywhere other than in a marked bay in a car park marked into bays.”

From the National Road Rules (http://www.ntc.gov.au/filemedia/Reports/AustralianRoadRulesFebruary2008.pdf)
Part 12, Division 10, Section 211 Parking in Parking Bays
“(2) The driver must position the driver’s vehicle completely within a single parking bay, unless the vehicle is too wide or long to fit completely within the bay.
Offence provision.”

I presume it’s a standard parking infringement notice, costing $81, but I couldn’t find anymore info on the usual websites.

Assuming there is a sign that says park in bays only, then yes I believe it is a ticketable offence.

This. If a parking inspector came across this, would the car(s) in question recieve a ticket?

Or someone who was upset with the white Mazda (to the right) parking over the lines and didn’t want to jammed like a sardine…

Serious Question: is it actually an offence, or just bad etiquette?

perhaps ticketing others occurred prior to this offence being committed?

or more probably a reptoid and they ate the parking inspector…

Someone with a wheelchair who couldn’t get a disabled park maybe?
