Parking insurance?

Saw a tradie park in a loading zone today in town next to the Canberra Centre and before anything else he whipped out a camera of some sort and proceeded to take photos of his vehicle, the loading zone sign, number plate etc.

Nothing like making sure the rangers don’t play up on their side of the bargain eh?

I know why he is doing that… that loading zone is the parking inspectors favourite place to hang out in Canberra. I once got a parking ticket for pulling up there at 8am on a Sunday morning for being in a ‘taxi zone’ even though it is also a loading zone… and there were barely any cars in Civic and I was there for literally five minutes dropping something off, in a large van.

Not sure why he’d be doing that. But I do know that parking inspectors actually take photos now when issuing a fine.

Is the timestamp on his photo supposed to be some sort of evidence? Coz that doesn’t mean diddly – he can set the camera’s clock to whatever he wants. Legally useless, I would have thought. Gotta be for someone else’s benfit.

Why? The parking inspector’s is supposed to be taken as gospel, why wouldn’t his?

The parking inspector also makes notes on his device about the time and place and I can assure you he wouldn’t be able to change the time on that.

His wouldn’t because it would be taken with a regular camera that can have the date changed easily.

Exactly. And if it was a nice modern digital camera (or smert-fone) it will have the GPS data in the EXIF too.

Smart move. Public parking, I would be taking photos of the numberplates of vehicles parked next to me.

I often take photos if I have to leave a pay-parking ticket on my scooter.

Not sure why a legitimate tradie in a loading zone would go to the bother though? Why not just take the photos on receipt of the (unlikely) ticket? (unless they are intending to prove the start time?)
