Parking meter credit card facilities down

Problems with credit card facilities at Canberra’s new pay parking machines mean people unable to pay will not face fines, according to The Canberra Times.

A spokesman for Simon Corbell has said that although people are encouraged to use coins instead, if they are unable to obtain a ticket, they will not be fined.

Parking meters using cash only of course won’t have this benefit – I mean, problem…

Once credit card facilities are back in action, fines will be issued as usual.

If I use the app and don’t bother getting the ticket, does that mean someone else will get free parking?

yes

update from Road Users Services:

“Just letting you know that at the start of this week the mobile app shouldn’t print a ticket.
The parking inspectors can tell on their PDA if you have paid through the mobile app.”

Would this apply to privately owned car parks such as the Wilson ones ?

bumping this thread.

I see that there is a sign on the parking machines that says that a ticket does not need to be displayed when using the parkmobile app.

However, the last time I used the app, a ticket was still printed.

If I use the app and don’t bother getting the ticket, does that mean someone else will get free parking?

There is something drastically wrong with the Territory’s revenue collecting system. I have never had any success with the new parking machines and I have had to make the phone call which costs more that the cost of the parking ticket.
In the past 4 years I have had to get an ambulance for a family member and both times I have had to phone them 2 months later to get an account sent out. The last time was a few days ago and the clerk I spoke with had a lot of difficulty finding details and when they were located it was admitted that the account had not been sent. There was an admission that “there is a problem with the accounting” and if I hadn’t have phoned the bill would never have been sent or checked for payment. There was a further admission that there is no way of following up so there could be lots of other non-billed accounts that depend on the honesty of the service user which means most will go unpaid.
We are talking about tens of thousands of dollars.
I hope someone from the ACT Auditor’s Office reads this blog.

You call Canberra Connect and report the fault, and they take your details and issue you a reference number to quote in case you receive a fine.

It’s actually pretty easy, I did it this morning…

Do Canberra Connect still take up to 20 minutes to answer the phone?

Yesterday I was on hold for 2-3 minutes, but there were a lot of people standing around parking meters on mobiles, obviously on hold, so maybe I just got lucky.

used the parking app again this morning as it was not possible for me to get any coins. the app works fine, but it takes forever to print a ticket.

+1 the next person that makes some weird clicking noise at me while I’m waiting for it to print is gonna get a boot to the face. I didn’t just walk up to the machine and whip out my phone for a quick bit o’ insta-chat-book or whatever.

These would work slightly better if you could do all the app stuff prior then enter in a pin or wave your phone at the machine to get your ticket.

So does this mean that if said machine is down when I go to pay for my parking for the day and then is fixed over the course of my parking period I get fined?
Will they blanket out that whole day as a no fine day?
Or do I have to keep going back to the machine over the course of the day to ensure the machines credit facilities are still out of commission?
Am waiting now for a twitter account or app to open up to report where these broken machines will be…
