Parking Petition at Calvary

I was reading the Times last Wednesday when I noticed this article – Car parking push at Calvary. The gist of the article is Glenn McCrea (who’s running in the local elections) has passed a petition around Belconnen that got 1200 signatures to get more parking at Calvary. It was a shock to see this in a paper, because hospital parking was something I thought I was alone in worrying about.

I’ve recently moved into Belco from out of state, but I’ve had a lot of bad times with car parking at hospitals, especially hospitals that are upgrading car parks without thinking about where you’re parking. Going to see my dad, who was in the local hospital for months, got that much more painful searching for parking in surrounding suburbs. It might seem small, but its really something you can do without when you have a whole lot of other stuff on your mind!

Good on Glenn for trying to do something about this.

Didn’t ACTPLA advertise a Territory Plan Variation to change a part of the bushland into a carpark? The bit that people park on anyway think.

Yep

I’m not sure how the original poster thinks anyone can build a new carpark without losing carparks in the interim. There’s only so much land on any given title….

I totally agree with the first three posts.

Although I have to say that I prefer canturf to astroturf. So much more realistic don’t you think?

I agree with dagwood, this is a critical issue for the Belco region and Glen should be commended for trying to do something about it.

Well done Glen and here’s to more action on issues like this.

Lets just hope they fix it. When I was pregnant, the hospital just told us to park anywhere when I went in to labour and that they would write a letter to get us out of the parking fine!

Ridiculous that they have to do that, surely they should just have enough parking!!??
