police parking

Just find yourself an illegal space between 2 parked cars and knock yourself out.

Secondly, VW reverses to get out, collects police bike? Then what?

Then we take another photo and post it with the heading “Parking, VW style”.

If I was walking past I would have grabbed that helmet. Would look cool on my mantelpiece!

One wheel in 5 min zone and one wheel in 15 minute would have the parking inspectors scratching there heads.

I think we need a royal commission…

As we pay rego and other taxes we are entitled to use the whole space.

I suspect this tread is going to take a sour turn about now.

More importantly, the VW needs to wash his rear window!

I don’t have a problem with the parking but what about the pedestrian safety hazard created by those milk crates? Also, those massage shop posters are a little explicit, aren’t they? And what’s up with the black guy just standing there not running from the cops?

Perhaps the guy in question is looking for some police action Rodney King style?

I’m just surprised/disappointed no kids have been cheeky enough to try and make off with the helmet. I guess because all the bogans are hanging around outside the Maccas at the interchange these days…

Oh for crying out loud. I suspect some people will also have a go when they call the police in an emergency and they don’t get there fast enough. “Oh sorry,I was driving around the block looking for a parking space.” I suspect some one has other reasons to begrudge the police.

Speaking as a motorcyclist that I am. I would never ever park like that. White care most probably has a driver who hardly looks out the rear window, and most probably wouldn’t see the bike. Blue car could hit the bike trying to get out.

If I was first to park I would use the whole space, but leave room for another bike only.

Just to clarify, i actually stopped when i saw him reversing into this spot, the cars where their first… I then decided to take the pic after he had left, heading in the CBA Banks direction….

We all have a good laugh and congratulate the driver of course 🙂

I expect it was some enticing-looking doughnuts that needed his immediate attention.

Then the VW driver pays for repairs to the police bike. Just because someone is parked illegally doesn’t mean you lose liability for driving into their vehicle.

It’s not like it’s a hard bike to see, it’s nearly as big as the Polo.

However I’d be a bit miffed if I had parked that far forward in the bay so I could load something heavy into the back of the car.

Are there any rules that restrict the number of vehicles allowed to occupy marked parking bays? Is it illegal for four motorbikes to occupy one bay, or two compacts to occupy a bay?

211 Parking in parking bays
(1) This rule applies to a driver who parks on a length of road, or in an area, that has parking bays (whether or not a park in bays only sign applies to the length of road or area).
Note Parking bay is defined in the dictionary.
(2) The driver must position the driver’s vehicle completely within a single parking bay, unless the vehicle is too wide or long to fit completely within the bay.
Offence provision.
Note 1 Driver’s vehicle is defined in the dictionary.
Note 2 Vehicle includes a combination — see rule 15 (d).
(3) If the vehicle is too wide or long to fit completely within a single parking bay, the driver must park the driver’s vehicle within the minimum number of parking bays needed to park the vehicle.
Offence provision.

Not that I can see from a quick look at the Australian Road Rules.

If that VW driver can’t get out of the park they don’t deserve a license IMO. Same goes for the other car although I can give it some slack if the car behind it is illegally parked.

As for the cop OP, read the responses. Whether they are getting a coffee or buying a donut, they have to be able to respond ASAP in an emergency. Imagine the outrage if the reason a police officer didn’t get somewhere was because they had to park too far away for any reason.

A possible issue is that parking the motorcycle like that may make it more difficult for the black car to pull away from the curb (assuming the car has no room to reverse first, which admittedly is unlikely in those particular spots).

I often park my bike like that when I am the first one in the space, allows a car to also share “my” space as well. Sook much

ARR 307: Stopping and parking exemption for police and emergency vehicles and authorised persons
(1) A provision of Part 12 does not apply to the driver of a police vehicle or emergency vehicle if, in the circumstances:
(a) the driver is taking reasonable care; and
(b) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply.

Parking near to where they need to go, whether it be for food, drink, toilet or for a job is paramount. Do you really expect the police to park 5 or 10 mins walk away, then when they get called to an emergency spend 10 minutes getting back to their vehicle? That could be the difference between life and death for someone that needs their help and you begrudge them for parking nearby?

Police need to eat / drink. They also need to respond to emergencies. If they have to park further away it will take them longer to respond. Personally, I’d prefer Police to be able to park whereever they see fit in order for them to get to a call-out 30 seconds quicker

Sometimes I get a little irritated at police using their exemptions from certain parking laws for no valid reason – this though doesn’t worry me at all.

Really, this is just efficient use of space. It should be legal for all motorcycles.

Yup

Can’t be bothered finding the reference, but I believe it isn’t nearly as specific as “in an emergency”, but more along the lines of “because they are doing policy type stuff” – which could well be interpreted as “need to be near my vehicle in case of an emergency call, but also need to eat, drink and pee from time to time”.

It all seems reasonable to me. That, and there’s nothing here saying what the officer might have been up to, so there may be an emergency nearby.

Bit of a non-event…’Police officer parks motorcycle, film at eleven.’

Police cost us a fortune in taxes. I don’t want to pay for them to ride around looking for park nearby wherever they need to be. If there isn’t one available let them ‘make’ one!

The Australian Road Rules do not apply to emergency service vehicles during an emergency.

A lack of parking next to “Bean in the City” is a recognised category of emergency.

Fair to say Pitchka ASSUMES the bike got there after the 2 cars.

You raise a very good point.

Strange post.

Fair to say Pitchka ASSUMES the bike got there after the 2 cars.

Big assumption – move along, nothing to see here

What’s wrong with this? It’s better than a motorbike taking up a whole car space intended for a car. In any case, the police officer might have seen something or someone that needed attention and had to park the bike as quickly as possible.

Yeah am sick of seeing Police vehicles mounted on curbs, nature strips and the such, only to see the nice Officer’s coming out of the closet Cafe or Fast Food restaurant.

Dunno, looks legal to me?
