Pay rise for the London Circuit Soviet

The ABC reports a 3.5% pay rise for our elected representatives in the Legislative Assembly.

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says the increase is in line with that offered to administration staff in the ACT Public Service.

“The Government’s submission to the Remuneration Tribunal indicated that pay rises for MLAs, executives and public officials should not exceed the increases available to workers in the broader community, in particular members of the ACT Public Service,” she said.

“This year’s increase for MLAs, executives and public officials is the same as that offered to administrative staff in the ACT Public service as part of enterprise bargaining.”

That takes them up to $125,259 a year.

Guys, I know that this isn’t a popular view, but that’s pretty cheap given what these folks have to do. There are perks I’m sure, but $125k isn’t much compensation for the hours, stress and having to put up with comments like those on RA. I mean, really would you do the job for that little?

And “One”, congrats on defining the term “word salad” with your posts.

I find that I have to agree with this.

Especially when you consider that they are earning only slightly more than an EL2.

Agreed. If you don’t think the current MLAs are up to scratch, take that up with your fellow citizens who voted for them – but the pay itself for the job sounds reasonable to me.

Anywhere else in Australia running a city council is a part-time job, and you don’t get lots of “staffers” and other parasitical hangers-on to turn it into a circus.

Be sure to include those public consultations for each minister getting 1st home buyers grants, and a legal right with ability provided by Government to file forms for IVF.

I’m sure the ACT Government MLA’s will fix these issues for homeless people one day, or perhaps some Government policy management will decide that some things just shouldn’t be possible for some people, without review, without discussion, my Government always knows whats best – but first they will need another $10k each for sitting on a round table (makes buck passing more fun) and reading a few vetted submissions from fake charities that coverup for anything which is sold for Government tax collections. Its always easier to blame addicts or victims while having membership in a group who is paid to coverup.

It is a ministers lawful responsibility to drink lots while helping mates with their littering – along with being re-elected after setting ones self up to make lots of money, perhaps have kids, and own their own home. It is a public officers lawful duty to commit criminal acts while under instruction of a departments policy that’s set by a cult of like minded sales folk.

So that’s $125K base for the village idiot MLA’s, which may well constitute the majority.

What does it come to with allowances though? An extra $40K for photocopying expenses? An extra $40K for travel expenses etc etc.

And what do the captains of the ships get? I bet Katy and Zed (I still can’t take that name seriously) are getting a lot more than the base rate.

Well, they do deserve it – after all, they haven’t stuffed anything up in the last 10 minutes or so – at least, not that I’m aware of.

Does anyone get a bonus for fudging hospital figures?????

I’m sure I’ve read that MLAs get CPI increases annually, too… anyone know for sure?

Pay rise ! how charming. The new Prez of Frenchland has just announced a 30% reduction in their own salaries , and reduced the number of staff they may have. Good timing Kate . Of course its all the fault of that remmunnat remuniation ,, that tribunal mob, so I guess your off the hook, hey.
