Paying for the Blues

Andrew Barr brings word that the ACT is shelling out $330,000 so the NSW Blues can play to an empty stadium in Canberra instead of in Sydney.

Canberra cricket fans will love today’s announcement that the NSW Blues will play one Shield match and one 50-over match in Canberra every year for the next three years.

The ACT Government has been working with Cricket ACT and Cricket NSW to bring these games to Canberra and has provided $330,000 to make it a reality.

Apparently this will increase our standing as the “sporting capital of Australia”.

This is worse than funding public art! At least with public art we get something to keep, even if it’s crap. Paying taxpayers money to turn people into spectators isn’t a good use of public money.

I see no difference to my tax dollars propping up the Raiders or Brumbies.

I follow neither team (codes too).

I don’t see the difference either. It’s just that the story was about funding AFL. Put up a story about taxes being spent on the Raiders or the Brumbies and I’ll get stuck into that too.

$330k for two matches? Makes GWS look like good value.
