A male pedestrian in his twenties has died after being hit by a bus on the Federal Highway near the ACT-NSW border last night (October 6).

The man died at the scene and is the ninth fatality on ACT roads in 2018.

At about 9:50 pm last night (October 6), ACT Policing responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a coach on the southbound carriageway of the Federal Highway.

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics also responded to the report and attempted to revive the man but he passed away at the scene.

The carriageway was closed for several hours while the ACT Policing Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are urging motorists in the area around the time to make contact with them if they have dash cam footage which shows any pedestrian activity near the ACT-NSW border. Police say the footage will help with the investigation.

Anyone with any information on the incident is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously but please quote reference 6316890.

I will merely make the point that if the collision had happened a few hundred metres earlier the coach driver would have been subject to mandatory urine and alcohol screening.
