Police are investigating the cause of a crash after a car smashed into the front window of Capital Chemist in Hughes this afternoon.

Around 12:30 pm, ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Ambulance Service were called to an accident after a car crashed into the shopfront.

Paramedics assessed two occupants of the car at the scene and transported one patient to hospital in a stable condition for further assessment.

Capital Chemist Hughes owner Harry Katsaros said he was thankful that no staff or customers were injured. Mr Katsaros said the driver of the vehicle was a well-known Hughes resident who is a frequent customer at the chemist.

“As a car came in to park, it looked like they accidentally hit the accelerator and came through the front window,” Mr Katsaros told Region Media. “Thankfully no one was on the footpath or in that section of the pharmacy at the time.

“It was a bit of a shock but we are just happy that everyone is safe.”

Mr Katsoras said the chemist would be closed for a short time while staff cleaned up the damage but would reopen this afternoon.
