Pest control recomendation

We get our place sprayed twice a year by Flick. You’ll still get the occasional spider or roach esp during rain.

Sorry, but my wife’s an anti spider person. So we spray.
We spayed our house in Amaroo every year for 4 years out 5, always in September /October and it controlled the spiders and bugs in and out of our house. We only did the inside once and from then on only the outside and the roof.
Canberra Pest Control in Mitchell are the company and they recently did my new place for spiders and If we see spiders more than a few times, they come back and spray again.

I know I am posting against what everyone is saying here but we just moved into a house that was dormant for some time and we had a red back plague. With 2 young kids, one a toddler, I wasn’t tempting fate so I got an exterminator in, Canberra Pest Control 02 6171 0612. I did both inside and outside living areas. Glad I did cause I came home to find hundreds of dead red backs mainly around the outside living areas.

Had it done nearly 2 months ago. Since no more red backs spotted but the added benefits has been all the Portuguese Millipedes are still dying outside our front doors and sure a couple of spiders too that entered our house.

We also cleaned up our garden, to stop lots of living areas for them to lay eggs.

We still have lots of normal garden spiders so I don’t think the extermination was an over kill.

You can get it done inside or/and outside. If you didn’t have a plague like us maybe just look at the outside living areas.

They say it lasts for 12 months best to get it done Autumn or Spring time. Given we had it done before all the rain and it’s still working I see it works over time too.

Make your own mind up but red backs are not our friends especially when it comes with children.

Lived in the same house twenty years. Never sprayed once. So far I have not been overrun by our Insect/Arachnid overlords. I think you get to a point of equilibrium with their numbers. Accept a few and remain calm. 🙂

As always when people post this question. The long term exposure to pesticides of dubious nature may do your kids more harm than a few spiders.

Teach kids about red backs and where they are likely to be found, to be careful when picking things up in the garden, and be thankful we rarely get funnel webs in Canberra.

We have our place sprayed every year by a company in Mitchell. I must say it doesn’t seem to last long though… My choice would be to leave it and ‘self manage’ but my husband is a pom and doesn’t do spiders at.all.

Ditto. I don’t have anything against spraying – but you’re unlikely to get rid of all redbacks.

The issue with spraying is you kill everything, which is great, until the poison wear off and they come back with a vengeance. I have very few spider issues, because I leave the huntsmen and other spiders alone. OK sometimes I squash a red back, but rarely see them. I understand with young kids it can be a concern, so maybe some selective spraying with a can of spider control would be better?
