Photograph your petrol station. A call to arms

Between news that Canberra is getting badly ripped off and Barcham getting bailed up for daring to take a picture of a price board this morning we think it’s time to do something.

So get snapping with your phones people and send in pictures of your local petrol station.

If they arc up remind them you’re on public property and direct them to your rights as politely as you can be bothered.

Let’s get them coming in to images@the-riotact.com . “Petrol” in subject please.

As an added bonus we can highlight the cheapest that come in.

My local petrol station is a windswept concrete slab, covered in detritus and surrounded by construction fencing since the bushfires. No price board to see, but there was a healthy looking fig tree sprouting in the corner a couple of years ago.

Thanks for acting on the suggestion, but don’t you trust your contributors just to contribute the prices without a photo?

Diesel at BP Queanbeyan Yass Road this evening 144.9 I think (same as I paid on Sunday). Airport Caltex 148.9.

How about we all just go & take a photo of the board at the BP Phillip…..

when is that servo due to reopen?

It’s open now.
I got petrol there on Sunday night (E10 @ 139.9).
It was 15c/L cheaper than Weston, though only 7c cheaper if you had a Woolies discount at Weston (i.e. 154.9 and 146.9c/L respectively).
And don’t start up about the E10 petrol please! 🙂

Barcham scary? although he does resemble Ares(albeit ostensibly) 🙂

Apparently people who run petrol stations don’t like it when you take photos of them. While I was trying to get a shot of the 711 a worker ran out and asked “Any reason you are taking a photo of this petrol station?”

I tried to explain I just needed a photo of the prices but he cut me off with a “Who do you work for?” and a “Why are you doing this?”

I managed to blurt out that I just needed the prices and that I worked in news (I figured I’d keep my job description nice and simple), but he was a bit too excited to pay attention.

I had to say it a few times before he listened. Once I got through to him though he seemed happy and went back inside, leaving me to wonder what kind of people usually take photos of a petrol station, and what danger they pose. Corporate espionage? Thieves casing the joint?

I like a good mystery in the morning!

In all honesty he seemed more afraid than angry… maybe I’m just scary?

What exactly happened to poor Barcham? Perhaps he would like to enlighten us with his own account of events, maybe with a few dramatic embellishments?

Maybe he is too distraught to talk at the moment.

Maybe he needs a hug? Better call a pro.

Ooh, I have my “professional-style” camera with me today…
