I’m back! But I’m no longer reviewing weekend hot spots. The team thought it would be fun and something a little different, to review local Canberra markets and the stalls that frequent them. Each week I am going to explore and review a new stall from the various Canberra markets, so watch this space!

I was trying to decide where I should start when Facebook notified me that the Foragers Market at Glebe Park was launching. It couldn’t have been better timing!

I am lucky enough to live in the city, so when Saturday morning rolled around, all I had to do was roll myself out of bed, put on my daggy weekend clothes and take a 10 minute stroll in the sunshine to beautiful Glebe Park.

People were picnicking in the lush green grass and stall holders were excited to be there. There was food, drinks, face paining, necklaces made out of watermelon seeds (yes! this is a thing), clothes, vintage stalls and gorgeous baby stalls … just to list a few. Being its debut, there wasn’t a lot going on and there weren’t many people, which was actually kind of nice. A peaceful Saturday morning.

As we wandered around the stalls, I couldn’t decide which I wanted to review first, so I walked around to each stall and then back around again to make my final decision. I rationalised in my head that anything food related was out as I had just stuffed my face at the Cupping Room. That still left with with a number of options, so in the end I made Mike (my fiancé) decide. To my surprise, he picked Serendipity Soaps, a gorgeous little handmade soap stall. I’m pretty sure he picked it because majority of the soaps looked like food.

I picked out a few that caught my eye. Although I love aesthetics, for me, when I’m picking things like soap and candles, it’s always about the smell. I picked a heart shape soap of cranberry, pomegranate and goats milk, topped with a dried rose petal (below)…

…and a summer melon goats milk piggy. Isn’t he the cutest?! Melon isn’t normally a flavour pick for me, he was more of a novelty.

Finally, look at this slice of cake(!) … it smells like sherbet and is just stunning.

I was really surprised how reasonably priced they were.

My soaps were wrapped in tissue paper and neatly packed into a little brown paper bag, and off I was home to try them out. In fact, I’ve been alternating between the three all week, trying to decide which I like best.

If you’re not into handmade soaps yourself, these babies will definitely make the perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas.

The Foragers Market is fortnightly, open 9am to 2pm on Saturdays in Glebe Park. The next markets will be held today, and on the 12th of December 2015.

Speaking of picnics, a review of good picnic spots around Canberra might be an idea.
