suspect bogan blagger

This in from Crime Stoppers:

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two males who are persons of interest in an ongoing investigation into an aggravated robbery at DFO in July.

After a detailed study of available imagery leading up to the crime, these two males were captured by CCTV at the DFO on July 12, a week before the robbery in the Fyshwick shopping complex carpark on July 19.

Police believe that the behaviour of the two men shown in these pictures was suspicious.

About 11.50am on July 19, two male offenders forced a 69-year-old security officer to the ground in the carpark under DFO. The males stole a bag containing a significant amount of cash. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Both of the offenders were described only as having solid builds and were both wearing black balaclavas. One of the offenders was about 175 centimetres tall (5’9”) and the other offender was about 168 centimetres tall (5’6”).

Following the incident, the males entered a blue Holden Commodore sedan, containing two other males in balaclavas. They then drove out of the carpark.

Police would urge anyone who may know the identity of these two males or the offenders to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information may be provided anonymously.

UPDATE: We’ve had this mail in from Geraldine and suggested she contact ACT policing who we are sure will be glad to hear from her:

Subject: Armed Robbers at DFO

The boys in your photo’s are my son and son in law, my son is 14yrs old and you have plastered him on the net as a person of suspicion for aggravated robbery.

I suggest you remove these photo’s ASAP as you have now tagged my boy as a suspected criminal.

How would you feel if this was your child simply shopping with his brother in law

who said they were guilty? police want to speak to them because they were acting suspicious.

I blame crazy mum, if she had said “Hi johnboy, theres obviously been some confusion, i’m taking my kid to the station now to sort this out, could you please take the photo down or black his face in the meantime it would be very much appreciated” etc etc, then i reckon there would have been a good chance he would have complied.

So the big question is geraldine, did you lend your son-in-law the blue commodore last july?

So if they know more than you and I – what could we possibly tell them that they didn’t already know? Who exactly were they expecting to call Crimestoppers?

I would say that fella in the background looks more suspicous – I hope he’s related to the child. 😛

Umm they never said the behaivour in that image, they say the behaivour of the two men shown in the pictures. Maybe just, maybe they know more than you and I?

Why is a 69 year old man a security guard?

so when he is shot and killed in the line of duty his death isn’t as keenly felt as that of a younger person lost…

On the delay:
Reviewing camera footage is a nightmare of a job and labour intensive.
25 camera points, 4 hour activity window = 100 hours of video for review, for maybe 2 minutes of useful content.

They have identified these two as a result of some poor person having to watch at least a week (from X different positions) of prior-to-the-event footage, sifting through crowds, and discovering something ‘suspicious’ about their behaviour relative to the rest of the crowd.

I would find it more suspicous that a 70 year old man is doing cash runs on his own in the basement.

“Police believe that the behaviour of the two men shown in these pictures was suspicious.”

Guessing here, but the comment above leads me to think the two pictured we doing somethign “suspicious”. Now to me, simply being in the mall in question is pretty suspicious its self, but I’m sure the cops have more then that. Maybe they followed the guard as he took the cash from shops to were ever it goes? That would be pretty damn suspicious.

Good job guys. So they’re guilty until they prove themselves innocent.

If they’re reviewing videos from the previous week in July – the real crooks have definitely slipped away already. What sort of evidence is this???

Like… deuh dude. They would have had more than these two images, a whole suite of video footage right across the centre would have been viewed and these two individuals assessed as behaving in a manner that raised suspicion. All these two need to do is go and talk to the plods and if they’re squeaky clean all they will have suffered is a bit of bogan fame. I doubt that the police, even at their most rash, would release photos of a couple of ‘likely lads’ without a fairly exhaustive investigation and process.

RE: the 15yo boy…

There are at least three, possibly four separate people the police are apparently interested in.
Two solid guys who did the robbery, the boy, and maybe the solid guy pictured (if he wasn’t one of those involved in the actual robbery).
Pictured guy and boy are persons of interest based on their behaviour, possibly on the pictured ‘shopping trip’ as prelim recon.

Geraldine might have inadvertently snitched out here own family members with her
“takedown” request. How unfortunate.Silence is golden.

Those are pretty good photos of them maybe it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

Yet again another Holden Commodore has be implicated in perverting the minds of the normally law abiding citizens who own/steal them, and driving such individuals to commit a myriad of unspeakable and nefarious acts. At least these youngsters are supporting the Australian Automotive industry perhaps the Judge will take this into account prior to suspending their sentences. Geraldine’s son will be viewed as a helpless pawn in this ordeal and right fully so. The son in law on the other hand…….

Well you all know in-laws (shakes head dismissively)

Love the presumption of innocence floating around here.

I feel sorry for the obviously innocent boys and their mum Geraldine. I mean, clearly there is a very high chance that the silly old security guard fart, has been knocked to the ground, his bi-focals knocked from his ageing eyes, and when later going through the DFO security footage (probably not in the company of Police), has picked out an image of two males because they look simmilary blurred in the photo. Or I could be wrong, and mummy is upset and believes in “innocent until proven footage”.

Muttsybignuts10:43 pm 15 Dec 10

So, I think I have this straight. There was a robbery at DFO back in July. Security cameras show images from a week earlier of what is obviously a skinny kid who, for some reason fits the description of “solid build”. If that is a solid build I would hate to see what they actually thought of someone with a bit of weight or muscle.Did some nerd watch a whole week of security footage and find a fat bloke that may or may not be described as having a solid build, point the finger and go ” yeah that must be them. The big guy looks solid. Sure the KID is a bit skinny but it doesn’t matter, he’s with a solid guy.”
What makes them think that of all the people that file through DFO that this pair, from a week earlier, are crooks?

Completly agree.

Hey Geraldine, if you’re so proud of your sons, why dont you get them to go and speak with police and sort out the “misunderstanding”. Also, their photos are all over the AFP website too, and probably the DFO security office.

Johnboy – if you havent already done so, perhaps let the police know. I wonder how many women called geraldine have 14 year old sons living in canberra.

+1. If it’s not them, it will be cleared up pretty quickly and easily.

Devatsated at breeding something so ugly.

Thanks a heap mum.

Hahah… I haven’t seen the shoe tongue worn above the laces in about 20 years! Did that trend resurface recently?

.

Excuse me? A septuagenarian security guard with a large amount of cash, alone, in an underground car park?

Was he carrying a big sign with “Hey throw me to the ground and take the cash!” too?

Should have just said ‘fatty and skinny’; one looks like a bull dog, the other a grunge version of Corey.

Looks like a bustling centre that one.

Hey, I think that’s me abducting the child in the background.

Looks like fridge too far for that fellow. So how did they simply steal away with a significant amount of money like that? Surely they should/would have better security measures.

Captain RAAF10:10 am 15 Dec 10

Looks like a father/son team. Those are good pics and they will get picked up soon, in fact I’d say right about……….now.

I can only see one guy with a ‘solid build’ in those pictures… although, he’s definitely carrying enough ‘solid’ to make up for the kid who can’t tie his shoe laces.

Further thought leads me to belive the younger, skinnier suspect may have simply been sitting in the car, rather than forcing an old man onto the ground, during the actual robbery.
