Pimp my skillz

I’m looking to move on in life, or at least the career bit of it, and I was wondering if anyone had any good (or notably bad) experiences with any of the professional job-finding or consulting agencies in town?

I’m an indoorsy paper-pusher with pretentions to communications or light research, and I work for the government.

So by “looking to move on” are you looking to make that big leap into the private sector, or stay firmly enveloped in the warm bosom of the APS?

In the private sector, you may find that merely having pretentions to comms & light research means diddly squat, in the lean and mean environment we usually want specific skills to fill specific roles.

My advice, if you want private sector work, go and take advantage of some of the govt funded training opportunities in higher level quals (Cert IV, Dip and ADip)that are currently available. Upskill and increase your competitiveness in the employment market.

Look for where you want to go in regards to your next position, rather than which pimp will look after you. If you do your job, earn your pimp the 8-15% kicker on top of what you are getting, they will look after you without a doubt.

My advice to you is find the position you would on seek, careerone, link me etc, then get a little Rupert in your game and sell yourself like the Mormons sell the old testament.

I’ve been with Kowalski and they’ve been quite good.

first off, what are you looking for?
I can help re IT type roles, but I have several contacts in other sectors as well.

email me at peterdotholland98@gmaildotcom

I can pass your info on to several agencies if I know what you are after…
