Planned expedition to climb the median strip of Northbourne Avenue.

Thumper 29 January 2007 47

I am currently putting together a team to climb the trecherous median strip of Northborne Avenue, starting in the city centre and hoping to work our way up to the Alinga Street peak, err, intersection.

I shall begin a reccie of the climb tomorrow and report back on the conditions.

At this stage I need an official photographer, some more climbers, a media advisor, and a back up crew, like Sherpas. Oh, and a video crew to tape the epic climb, and to make it into a documentary, with interviews and stuff, etc….

I also need ropes and pinions [ED – wings?] and harness, etc.

The planned start date is not yet fixed but will be if I can get the numbers to do it (and media coverage as well). I envision a start at around 0830 on a weekday morning.

If nothing it will be a funny stunt to gain some money for some charity such as the RSPCA or WSPA (or whatever).

Expedition members can leave their interest on this post stating your experience in this field.

A sense of humour will be essential, and the ability to keep a straight face, as well as reasonable acting skills.

I await replies for this great adventure.

Good for you simbo!! good for you.
Now we just need a token aboriginal or african american

… And then I rant at them, possibly get extremely personal and annoying, the thread dies down again and we go back to arguing about important things like politics, sports and beer.

Anyway, to get back to the point, just because I am the token poof does not mean I have to be hanging around the concerned wives and girlfriends. I like hanging around the blokes. Hell, that’s why I’m a poof!

Oh, my token poof-ness only comes out when we have a particluarly token poof-ish story, and some moron claims that I shouldn’t have the right to live my life with the parnter of my choice the same way that anybody else lives with the partner of their choice, obvious biological dissimilarities excluded. (completely ignoring that I currently don’t have a partner of my choice)

Do we have a token poof now? Sorry – have been distracted for about six months.

LOL – Let me know mate. I’ll happily turn up and heckle the hecklers. And I’ll drink (wait for it) some BEER!

I can lend you my St Bernards rescue dog – you just need to fill up the barrel round his neck with brandy though. (I drank it dry when he rescued me in the garden last week).

Hang on, you’re leaving the women with me and the beers?

Okay, is this because I’m the token poof, Thumper?

Thanks K…..

I reckon we also need the worried female partners waiting at base camp…

I have a tent. If I’m still in town it can have its cherry popped and actually be pitched.

At this stage I have;

NTP, Llamafrog and Gurunik (and myself) as climbers. (Atoz is out due to his unfortunate experience)

SamTseppo as a maybe.

Geoffco and Andy as photographers/ video.

Simbo at base camp.

The expedition is growing folks….

I still need a charity organiser.

Oh, and some gear…

Thumper Thumper 6:27 pm 30 Jan 07

This is a serious attempt….

However, all help will be appreciated.

All I need to do now is to work out how to raise some funds from the dumb stunt.

Although time might be a constraint: I’d happily hold a [insert cause here] bucket and/or wear a [insert cause here] T-Shirt… anything to help / boost numbers 😉

If there were several willing to do the T-Shirts – we could all yell supportive chants (a la Nicorette ad)!

Unfortunately (or not so unfortunate, depends on your take of things), I but a simple minion, given the task to look after the customers. I don’t hold that sort of power, and sweet talking will only get you so far.

terubo terubo 11:43 am 30 Jan 07

Hey schmerica – you’re a Hogs Breath person – can’t you get the Faderettes out there to cheer them along?

schmerica_ schmerica_ 10:45 am 30 Jan 07

Its too noisy to land at Canberra Hospital… You will have to land in NSW and drive back into Canberra to make sure there isn’t too much noise for Garran residences.

terubo terubo 10:32 am 30 Jan 07

Can I be the rescue chopper pilot? And take you to the famous landing site at Canberra Hospital?

gurunik gurunik 10:27 am 30 Jan 07

i’m up for it too. i have my working at heights ticket, so i could be useful in the enevitable rescue………

Knowing Thumper (hardly at all…) I suspect that there will be no strolling but a horizontal climb all the way using ropes, campons and all types of proper climbing gear, as needed (turf can be treacherous you know)
