The Canberra Times explains that you’re all going to die (and me too depending on how my out of town job interview goes today).

There’s no more water and Actew is working on plans to figure out what dies first.

It’s been fun knowing some of you.

“anything to say on the topic of water conservation bugalugs? “

I’m pleased to hear johnboy is leaving.

That fat bastard uses too much water washing.

“Is this a democratic blog in a democratic country”

hahahhahaa
no it isn’t
read the taglines you troll
goodbye

anything to say on the topic of water conservation bugalugs?

auntiesocial9:43 pm 16 May 07

Canberra has three(3) lakes, but no water….oh, but it’s a pretty place.

bigred, I saw a propaganda film in the 70s about opening up the Mallee. “The rain will follow the plow” is the line I remember. What planet were we on?

I haven’t washed my car for 15 years and I don’t water the plants. OK, there’s one pot plant that won’t get some water every few months when it actually occurs to me. So I’m not going to use any less water with Stage 4.

I have this great idea. Why don’t we find a semi arid valley, in a rain shadow and build a city based on a european garden theme. Then we will sit back and watch the people flock in, and we wll expect the theory of abundance to look after their every want and need. Sound familiar?

I hope you are satified V8.

caf – actually, i think that line would be quite appropriate for the banners at the top 😛

don’t be so thin skinned johnboy

you know I help the ratings of this site

That last line of andy’s is going straight to the pool room.

You have a democratic right to start your own site and say whatever you wish.

andy

no prizes for second!

bugalug, except usually, I don’t criticise people for doing the same things I do.

and no, JB’s head isn’t between my legs.
Obviously though, noone’s head has been between your legs in some time

“I think Che is going to drop you into moderation as you are a nuisance, but I don’t much care either way.”

Is this a democratic blog in a democratic country or are you just showing your Liberal (read Steve Pratt) colours.

At least send me an email if you have concerns.

andy

Have you by any chance got johnboy’s head between your legs right now?

BG, the real difference is that we pay the bills to have our opinion whereas you are a freeloader.

We don’t expect ACTEW to pay to host our opinions.

But it doesn’t matter because no-one cares what you think.

Anyway I have nothing further to say to you. I think Che is going to drop you into moderation as you are a nuisance, but I don’t much care either way.

Mr_Shab,

“Isn’t criticising and exposing the flaws on one’s “social betters” the function of…a journalist (*gasp*).”

True. However I also thought it was remaining impartial.

johnboy needs to decide whether he is a journalist and therefore entitled to media accreditation or if he is a opinion columnist.

andy I like to think of you as paying my wages too 🙂

Andy,

“I’m a critic of virtually anyone, be they in a position of power or not. I just like criticising.”

Well we are two peas from the same pod then. I like criticising so that is what I am doing of JB

DarkLadyWolfMother4:25 pm 16 May 07

…poor man’s John Laws

Given how poor John Laws is (in terms of quality, not financial worth) that’s just scary…

Dante, are you too lazy to write bugalugs?

Not quite sure how it is a power trip wank!

Bugalugs, re your johnboy is a “sniping cynic, critic of everyone” comment. Isn’t criticising and exposing the flaws on one’s “social betters” the function of…a journalist (*gasp*).

As for the “my taxes pay your wages” thing (and aware that Ralph is quite capable of looking after himself) that kind of boneheaded comment cuts no ice. Especially in Canberra. My taxes pay your wages too. It’s called an economy. It’s all a rich tapestry of money exchanging hands…most of which originates in the government coffers.

If JB’s writing is so reprehensible…as usual, no-one’s forcing you.

bugalug says:
It is not about that site. I’ve never complained about the site.

My opinion is that johnboy is a sniping cynic, critic of virtually everyone else or probably more accurately anyone in a position of more power/authority than him.

See, the internet allows anyone who has the ability to put together a web page, the opportunity to speak their mind. It’s a bit like the old soapbox days of the Domain in Sydny (have you heard the term ‘get off your soapbox’?)

I’m a critic of virtually anyone, be they in a position of power or not. I just like criticising.
So, should JB or I NOT do so, because it offends you ? I think you’ll find the answer is no.

AND – just how much do you know about JB, to know what sort of position he is in, and whether he is qualified to pass judgement ?

Further to this, you are doing the same thing – trying to be critical and pass judgement on someone who is clearly in more of a position of authority than you, particular WRT this site.

So, go back to yuor little financial box and try and find ways to use other people’s money.

VYBerlinaV8 now_with_added grunt4:21 pm 16 May 07

It’s likely to rain this week. That means I won’t have to spend several hours watering my lawn and garden, although I’ll still have to wheel the V8 onto the concrete for it’s weekly tub and scrub.

Also, I hear a rumour water meters are ebeing put on water tanks in other cities. That just made my mind up never to waste money on one.

Besides, their never going to run out of water entirely. They know that if they do then then wealthy (like me) will just piss off to another city and waste their water instead.

For some reason I feel much better now!

I also pay tax. I like to think of it as paying my own wages.

& that was aimed at bug.

I’m yawning too, but not because I’m tired or bored.. just sick of your incessant power trip wank on. Give it a rest and get some of your own work done you muppet.

Being a capitalist is supposed to be some sort of a slur? Spake the small business man.

Nevermind bud, I pay tax too.

LurkerGal, F&^K Off.

Ralph

My tax dollars are paying for you. So do something you lazy capitalist git

Re: above post.

I’ll get in first. I’m an illiterate prat. The first sentence should have read –

I’ve never complained about this site. It is not about the site.

Bugalugs, you are a ****wit.

It is not about that site. I’ve never complained about the site.

My opinion is that johnboy is a sniping cynic, critic of virtually everyone else or probably more accurately anyone in a position of more power/authority than him.

My comment is then, that if he wants to present an image of a arrogant know it all than he should at least be able to prove that he can make a little commercial enterprise work.

bugalugs, for the record, I’ve never met JB. I like RA though.
And you strike me as just being a stupid little prat.

I think JB said it best though – you are here, contributing to THIS site, and can’t setup your own.
i think at the very least, that disqualifies you from being able to pass judgement on how good, or bad, RA is.

I’ve got heaps of water; I harvest my own (the septic also produces irrigation water but I don’t put enough down that for it to be in useful quantities).

I’m also pretty frugal with the water, as I can see exactly how much I’ve got, and that’s all I’ve got.

If they got serious and stopped waiting for rain “to get back to normal”, they be harvesting and storing what we get. Plumbing stormwater into suburban storage tanks (ie a tank or series of tanks for each locality), for instance.

And charging people properly for its use. If people have bigger families and use more water, then yes they bloody well should pay more. It’s the only way to motivate people to use less of it.

johnboy

How did the job interview go? What about those offers to stand for the Labor and Liberal parties, will you have time do do evrything?

I note that Bugalugs is here complaining and no-one knows or cares about his website.

Game over.

Bugalugs = Wagga Wagga?

captainwhorebags2:44 pm 16 May 07

caf: my bad. either way, I’d rather see water pricing increased as a mechanism for reducing usage, instead of a mechanism for maintaining profits.

revenue from water supply should be reinvested into water supply. end of story.

caf

I think ActewAGL does water but is the contractor for ACTEW.

ACTEW does the planning and provides advice to Govt.

captainwhorebags: There are precisely two shareholders in ACTEW, those are the Chief Minister and the Treasurer (hmm… Sidebar: Since those offices are now held by the same person, what does that mean for ACTEW’s governance?).

ie It’s a publicly owned corporation. ActewAGL is a different entity which is half-owned by AGL and half owned by ACTEW, but it doesn’t do water.

Water recycling

Water restrictions

Storm Water runoff harvesting

Pricing

Pray

Well you haven’t offered anything at all. Just sitting on the fence having pot shots each way and trolling. Now you get off your arse and contribute something decent to the discussion.

No interest.

I just allow you to make a goose of yourself the rest of the time.

Seriously though – why I pop up here during water debates is that it is serious problem that shouldn’t be trivialised by half arsed suggestions/solutions from underachievers such as johnboy and Ralph.

What’s your interest anyway? You only grow some balls and pop up here when people start talking about water restrictions. Spit it out now bud.

Ralph,

Prof. Peter Collingnon has managed to get on every TV and Radio station over the last few months with his concerns aboout water recycling.

Why don’t you get a backbone and do the same, so you can save us all.

Ditto James.

Environmental flows are a big part of the problem we have here. What ACTEW and the London Circuit Soviets are not telling us is that for a few million we can buy a couple of irrigation licenses from the Murrumbidgee and turn the environmental flows off once and for all.

Years and years of utter incompetance from ACTEW.

The odd person… Try alot of people. Go look at the figures. When the restrictions were first inforced our water consumption didn’t drop, it went up!!! Everyone panics coz they think they cant have something anymore.. Go to a supermarket the night before it will be closed the next day.. it will be packed coz people will have to go without for a whole day.

James-T-Kirk12:54 pm 16 May 07

Who is Mike Jeffreys – I only listen to Classic FM.

James-T-Kirk

You should stop listening to Mike Jeffreys. He is a poor man’s John Laws and a bigger redneck to boot.

James-T-Kirk12:46 pm 16 May 07

“We only have ourselves to blame.. When stage 3 was introduced and we couldn’t water our lawns all the time or wash our cars.. thats exactly what everyone went out and did. People who would water their lawns maybe once a fortnight now wanted to water their lawn every second day. People have the mentality that since something cant be used anymore that they have to go out and do it.”

Do you honestly believe that?

This has been caused because some dip shit left the BLOODY BIG TAP running at the dam, in the name of ecological outflows.

The odd person watering their lawn has done nothing to stop this….

I’ve got an interesting and sobering email you can all look at, in regards to what life is predicted to be like without water. Maybe then some will quit whinging about the restrictions that the Government puts into place.

Tybreaker – I agree.. which IS more important? Green Grass or drinking water????

And as for the rest of you – I believe Johnboy is allowed to go for other jobs, interstate or not.. Dont think it has anything to do with The Riot Act. Or have any affect.

andy,

You’ve cracked the code!

Have I upset poor little diddums johboy and little andy. Tell him to give me a call if he wants a job.

captainwhorebags12:42 pm 16 May 07

Screw ACTEW. So much for their ads claiming how much they support the community and “beware the stranger at the door” – when the cards are on the table, ACTEW protects their profit margins. I agree that water is a scarce and underpriced resource, but I don’t think I should be giving ACTEW shareholders more money for providing less product. Especially when it’s now glaringly obvious that the money hasn’t been spent on protecting the supply.

We only have ourselves to blame.. When stage 3 was introduced and we couldn’t water our lawns all the time or wash our cars.. thats exactly what everyone went out and did. People who would water their lawns maybe once a fortnight now wanted to water their lawn every second day. People have the mentality that since something cant be used anymore that they have to go out and do it.

Works the same as advertising.. Did yu really want McDonald’s until you saw an ad on TV or the golden arches?? No! Did you want to water your lawn until you were told you couldn’t do it anymore.. well not really…

And what do you do, bugalugs ?
Obviously your attempted financial employment doesn’t give you enough work.
Clearly, the business can’t even setup a proper website.
Dunno where you get off judging JB for running a web site, especially if Federation Financial is your company.
Maybe you should spend less time hassling JB and building your own website.

Well I’m a public servant and was wondering what to do today as my usual activities of blogging and watching youtube are starting to bore me. Why, I was so bored yesterday I fell asleep and everyone was gone when I came to.

Back on topic, I think it’s a jokoe that we’re still deciding what ovals we will water. For goodness sake, stuff them all – we need to drink!

Ralph,

I do have some time on my hands today because I have a great boss – me!

Do you want something of substance? It hasn’t rained suffciently for 5 years so we are f&*ked!

Now, give the tax payers a return on their investment and use that PhD of yours to come up with a solution.

i can’t see why bugalugs would want to comment on here if it wasn’t a highly successful blog.
and i’m not a public servant

Well you seem to have a lot of time on your hands today, sunshine.

Once again you have nothing of substance to say.

“Stage 5 – this has been the long awaited outcome of all the great work by ACTEW and ACT Govt over the last 3 years. Well done.”

Stage 4 – numbnuts!

I suppose it is easier to blame something than admit it hasn’t rained sufficiently for 5 years.

tommy, haven’t you some minister to brief or policy to implement from your lofty perch?

“bugalugs, if you knew anything at all, you’d realise that RA DOES work, and HAS worke for a long time. It’s a highly successful blog.”

Highly succesful – Ha!

It is frequented by mostly poublic servants with too much time on their hands.

If it was succesful, then johnboy would be doing it as a job.

and it’s nice to see that ACTEW will be increasing our costs as a result.
Here, have less water, and a higher bill.

bugalugs, if you knew anything at all, you’d realise that RA DOES work, and HAS worke for a long time. It’s a highly successful blog.
It’s not run by JB as a job however, and I beleive there are personal reasons for the things JB is doing.

I think RA is great.

Stage 5 – this has been the long awaited outcome of all the great work by ACTEW and ACT Govt over the last 3 years. Well done.

James-T-Kirk11:09 am 16 May 07

Hmmm,

Are they reducing ‘ecological outflows’ to counter the inflow issue yet? I hope so…

“Good luck with your interview JB. We’ll be sorry to lose you.”

LurkerGal – admittedly it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been called clueless but what will you actually miss.

I could link to other journalists work and be an arrogant prick and it wouldn’t take me more than 15 minutes a day.

Good luck with your interview JB. We’ll be sorry to lose you.

Bugalugs? Sod off.

LG, wondering just what sort of trogladite has turned up here in my absence?????????

How about that?

johnboy the ultimate cynic and critic can’t make a simple blog work and now has to scamper off with his tail between his legs looking for a out of town job

What a shame for a man with such superior intellect and foresight.

Steve_Pedestrian9:42 am 16 May 07

Is it me or are the photos on the front of the Canberra Times, used to show how much the dam levels have fallen, taken at different dams? They claim to be from Corin Dam but I’m not so sure. The first one looks like Googong Dam?

Socialists.
