Plans for PM Statues move forward

Mr. Stanhope has put out a media release heralding progress in his plans to immortalise the nation’s Prime Ministers in bronze.

I have to say it’s amazing no-one’s thought of doing this excellent thing before now. Even more amazingly the Chief Minister has shown unusual tact in putting both Chifley and Menzies up as first cabs off the rank.

I wonder which party will push for Billy Hughes?

Thanks Valleyboy – I thought it sounded familiar but just assumed I’d heard it suggested before.

It has been thought of before — over sixty years ago, in fact. Are there no other Victorians here who have visited the Prime Ministers Avenue at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens?

over himself possibly…..

Its a good idea I think….

Wonder if Nero will erect one of himself???

Do we really want a bronze Kate Carenell or Rosemary Follett cluttering up the place?

Just somewhere else for pigeons to shit.

Wonder if the mayor will want something similar for former mayors?

nah they’ll love it.

bags the concession rights!

(in 20 years when there’s more than two lonely statues gathering seagull poo i guess)

I’m closing my eyes and I’m seeing a minibus. A fairly empty minibus.

Oh c’mon, close your eyes and imagine the bus loads of tourists coming to gawk.

We’ve already got them all immortalised in canvas – why do we need a bronze copy of ’em as well? Is there really much of a possiblity that we’ll forget what they look like?
