Platapuses at bogun city

Walked over the bridge at Queanbeyan yesterday and noticed a platypus swimming on the down stream shops side. Appropriate that such a bogun animal is living in bogun city. Like a lot of people in Bogun city they suffer an identity crisis not knowing whether they are rats, ducks or some form of reptile. I will call this one P1 and I believe his hole is located in this area.
Another ie P2 lives upstream a hundred yards or so at the big storm water drain. Anyone out there have more info on these 2 monotremes. Do platypuses live in any of the artificial lakes around Canberra? If so where and how many?

What do they taste like ?

Thanks to all – gives me an idea. Suprised ACT/Queanbeyan cannot get a more widespread distribution of these monotremes. Probably like to keep them all at Tidimbilla in their appropriate pidgeon hole. P1 was out swimming this afternoon while it was snowing not far
away. Definitely a Platypus and not a rat going by the shovel of a tail.

It’s funny how active some species are, when you start asking people for sightings. That pygmy possum that is so rare in the Snowies.. well, it is rare and dying out, but there was a bunch of them infesting the tuning room in the staff quarters at Charlotte Pass. They’d boldly demand food (they liked anything that’s bad for you). They were meant to be timid and hibernating, but they weren’t!

Maybe they’d stop dying out if they just put a LOT of tim-tams in their various habitats because I can attest that they had a vast appetite for tim-tams.

I have seen a platypus in LBG. I was on the small bridge near nerang pool, and saw it climb up and over the weir into nerang pool.

We saw the (well, a) platypus in the river while visiting the Queanbeyan Farmers Markets on a Saturday afternoon.

I found a platypus in my bath once, but it slid down the gurgler before I could catch it. I was also on a lot of acid.

woops, the best place to see platypus, not water rats, is at Tidbinbilla…

I saw a platypus in Jerrabomberra Creek, just near where it runs into Lake BG. Must have been ten years ago.

A few years back a couple of platypuses were found dead in a fishing net in the Molonglo downstream of Coppins Crossing. It was on the news at the time.

Water rats are not uncommon in the lakes. They have a skinny white-tipped tail and leave a trail of bubbles when swimming underwater.

The best place to see them is in the ponds at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Quite a few of them there.

It’s spelt “bogan”, you bogun.

Mate,
You own a ute and pig dogs, you are a bigger bogan then any of us.

The only bogans in Queanbeyan are the ones who are born and bred in kambah, charnwood and belco, then move here for the cheaper property prices and lower taxes.

If you run over a platypuss is it then called a flatybum?

So then P1 may be a female as it is smaller than P2 according to Wiki. But back to my original question – has anyone done any studies on these particular platypusii (or whatever). – sound like an opportunity for some school kids etc

Do these animals share a burrow or are they like the rest of Queanbeyan – seperated and living alone in their burrows?

Why was I in Queanbeyan well I had parked the ute and was taking my pig dogs for a walk and a feed on the local geese population.

Sorry about the spelling.

Platypusses, as ant said…definitely. And, while we’re at it, hands up anyone who says “I’ll have two cappucini”!

Qeenbeean phukkin roolz.

I’ve seen platypusses in Woolshed Creek, near where it links with the Molonglo. And some species of water rat (didn’t think we had water rats in Australia, but evidently we do).

A technologically advanced (web 2.0) bogan is a ‘bogn’ (ie. Flickr).

People on Queanbeyan bridges shouldn’t throw stones at bogii.

I find the Google results to be a good indication of the correct spelling of an obscure word.

Take ‘bogan’ for example.

A search of Australian references to bogun returns only 480 results, while bogan returns 185,000.

I therefore give it to ‘bogan’.

I feel honoured to have a bogan platiduck named after me.

Platypodes, Queanbeyan and doilies aside, I have discovered an extremely addictive and fun flash game. It’s been years since I’ve played a game that has hooked me as much as Desktop Tower Defense. Enjoy.

Well the Australian Platypus Conservancy states that Platypi is “no longer valid” but I say stuff ’em. I like colloquialisms.

Groan and double groan. Very clever M.

Hmm… I never studied Ancient Greek but platypoda sounded right to me… but I just comprehensively searched the net for the grammatically correct plural, and it seems we’re both wrong – ‘platypodes’ is the truest plural.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/platypodes

The ‘usage note’ has a good breakdown of why it’s platypodes – there are other sites but wiktionary explains it best.

I only brought it up because the OP spelt and used an acceptable plural (though misspelt in the title, but not in the body of text) and was corrected by Ntp who used a bogus pseudo-Latinism.

Next topic – the etymology of Bogan. Apparently it’s got nothing to do with the Bogan River, Bogan Shire and village of Bogan Gate in central NSW – it’s in fact a Victorian term. I wonder if it has anything to do with ‘bogus’ – a Latin word?

PS S4anta, alphabetising doilies is an outdated practice – I myself use the Doiley Decimal System.

Excuse me if I choose to disregard the rantings of someone who can spell neither ‘platypuses’ nor ‘bogan’.

Actually meconium, it is platypode, according to the Queens English (hem, hem). However, just about any pluralism will do, as many scientists just cobble together random crap to indicate more than one platypus.

Now, I shall go back to alphabetising my doileys.

Platypoda, Ntp. It’s a Greek word so it doesn’t use the Latin -us -> -i ending. Platypuses (with a y!) is also acceptable.

Isn’t is bogan?

We have rats in our lakes…. Not sure what that says about our city :-/

I just wonder if it’s such a BOGUN town why would you be there walking over the bridge ??

Smokey4’s opinion on Queanbeyan is not necessarily that of any of the Riot admin crew. And I like platypi
