The people of Coombs may not have their shops yet but they can look forward to a new purpose-built play space.

The Suburban Land Agency has released the draft concept of its design for the play space on Edgeworth Parade, which includes basketball and multi-sport courts, swings, slides, kickabout area and toilets.

It says the look and feel of the play space is naturalistic, with the use of timber and a natural colour palette. It will be set into the slope of the land to maximise views of the surrounding landscape.

The infrastructure elements included in the draft concept plan address the findings of the YourSay survey.

There will also be a shaded picnic area and barbecue, a network of paths to all play areas and facilities, play areas for different age groups, parking, lawn terrace seating, and a sculptural mist play zone.

“The Suburban Land Agency’s design consultant has prepared a concept that brings the community’s views to life,” the SLA says.

The concept plans will be available to view at the Pop-up café at Stromlo Cottage in Noffs Crescent this Sunday, 24 February between 9 am and 12 pm.

The consultation process has been a joke!

The 2018 YourSay Survey allowed 5 WEEKS for parents, grandparents and play-space visitors to say what lovely playground stuff they wanted – without any reference to cost, site suitability or potential impact upon local residents. Now, the residents who are directly affected get 2 HOURS to have a “sneak peek” at some “draft concepts” that are essentially “not negotiable”. The toilet decision is going to be based upon some as yet unfinished audit.

When are the people who currently visit Holdens Creek Pond going to be asked what they enjoy about the restful and stunningly beautiful site?? When do the dog walkers, evening fishermen, bird-watchers, joggers, cyclists, walkers and those who just want to unwind at the end of a busy day – when do they get to be consulted about so much construction on one small site to deliver a signature 11th Play Space in Coombs.

Instead of watching the wading birds from my dining room table, I’ll be watching people going in and out of a toilet.
