So having survived seven hours in as blazing sunshine as you’re ever likely to see here are some thoughts on this year’s PM’s XI.

    — Manuka Oval appears to be using washing machine hoses for their boundary rope
    — Kiwi’s are generally better sports than their Australian counterparts. Special props to Pete Fulton who put up with our section of the crowd and even gave us a couple of waves.
    — Justin Langer really knows how to pace an innings.
    — Kids today might get a bad rap but the college age blokes next to us not only walked to Coles and back in the lunch break to lug in bags of ice, they also shared the ice freely with everyone around.
    — At 11am it was hot enough to melt our drinks tray.
    — In those conditions port-a-loos get insanely hot inside. 37 degrees seemed positively cool once one got out. (Can anyone top 24 flaps?)
    — Beer helmets are always cool (modelled here by one J Stewart)
    — VB tastes pretty good out of a plastic cup in insane heat.
    — The crowd in the stand’s ability to conform to the available shade put the flight of birds to shame in terms of mass coordination.
    — The Kingston Hotel’s air conditioning is truly a wonder of the world after 7 hours sitting in the sun.
    — A broad brimmed $12 straw hat from the shop on the ground floor of the Canberra Centre is the best investment you will ever make.
    — Roll on sunscreens (as will fit in a pocket) are a close second.
    — It’s a crying shame we don’t get more top flight cricket in this town

No, the one in the beer hat, I think!

Is that the guy with the spray tan?

😉

J. Stewart here aka the guy in the beer hay. you riot act fellas are sneaky bastards haha. was an awesome day and fulton took it well.

A pineapple juice mug would be swell thanks, Disposable. I can’t believe Jazz hasn’t made me one yet!!

: P

By the way, the Kingo also do a very nice pineapple juice!

How about I get you a pineapple juice mug?

🙂

Yep! Order the shirt! Order me a coffee mug while you’re at it ….

There’s nothing like a good RiotACT t-shirt when you’re meeting up with other Rioters, Disposable! You guys should have come to the hotel afterwards.

I never thought of that. Time to order a shirt me thinks.

I wanted to go to the Kingo but my sunburn wouldn’t allow it.

I have just two words to say about this: “Jealous”

Hmmmmm … prison roof … cricket … prison roof … cricket …. Even I would go with the cricket!

But you had to think about it didn’t you? 🙂

I have to think about how to find my way to the ladies’ room!

I’d go with the prison roof personally.

Ahh now the flaps makes sense – I was thinking if swinging teh door 24 times to clear the smell of the previous tenant.

If 24 is your record – I scored a paltry 5 or 6 at Australia day celebrations.

So how is the choice to subject oneself to a whole day in 37 degree sun for the cricket different from what the 2 remand centre prisoners chose to do this morning?
(Except for perhaps the beer)

Danman,

when using a portaloo, the flap valve at the bottom opens when a certain amount of urine has filled the bowl, making a noise as the bowl empties. The valve then closes.
Repeat procedure.
i dare say 24 flaps is quite the record.

Whats this flaps business ? Anyone care to explain to this simpleton

24 flaps is impressive. I believe the record at a bucks day I went to at Canberra Racecourse was 19.

The highlight of the day was the lunch break swim in Manuka pool. Sensational bit of forward planning by my group!

It was a pretty good game as well, and teh partnership between Langer and Butterfingers Bailey was the only reason that the PM’s XI was the key.

I have some interesting sunburn patterns today where sunscreen just missed a few little spots…

I was there with my cricket club and was looking for you guys all day. Turns out you were sitting pretty close to us. I blame the heat.

I asked a bunch of guys, who where mostly wearing straw hats, if they were the riotact group. They stared blankly at me and thought I’d offended them somehow.

It was a fantastic day and everyone in the crowd seemed to be having a fun time, can’t wait for next year.
