I am currently researching material (crowd sourcing) for a low budget local feature film – the story is concerned with a man who has a severe addiction to poker machines.
Are you a poker machine addict or have you been?
Have you been directly affected or heard about the effects of poker machine addiction?

I was fortunate enough to work in Clubs for about 6 years, during that time I observed some disturbing events. In my view problem gambling is a serious thing in the ACT, I have witnessed people take their own lives and seen first hand of the consequences of this addiction. The government does not do enough to prevent problem gambling in the ACT. The ACT government is more concerned about the revenue in taxation it collects rather than finding a solution to the problem. Clubs are no better, motivated by greed Managers prefer not to exclude problem gamblers, in most cases concerned about loss of revenue.
The issue staff have, is how can you tell someone is spending above their means? They could have a million dollars in the bank, yet exhibit all hallmarks of a problem gambler. Unfortunately the Club movement is so powerful (not so in ACT), any proposed change of legislation will be opposed.

Gawd I miss the days when clubs actually had real entertainment.
This is the story of poker machine addiction in the ACT.
All others are merely variations of it.
The Labor Party have had a pokies (funding) addiction for years.
