A police raid in northern Canberra allegedly uncovered a cannabis grow house that contained more than 150 plants.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said officers executed a search warrant at the residence in Kaleen on Wednesday (8 January) and allegedly found a sophisticated hydroponic set-up with 156 cannabis plants.
“Police also observed extensive damage to the interior of the home and evidence of unauthorised electrical work used to bypass the electricity meter,” the spokesperson alleged.
Police arrested a man at the scene and charged him with cultivating a commercial quantity of a controlled plant, possessing equipment used to cultivate controlled plants, theft and unauthorised use of electricity.
The 36-year-old then faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday (9 January).
He was not formally charged as Magistrate Ian Temby said a Vietnamese interpreter was needed before charging him.
The man did not make a bail application. He was remanded in custody to 30 January when he will appear in court over an audio-visual link from the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
Region hasn’t named the man as he was not formally charged in court.
