Police car rammed after driver falls asleep in stolen vehicle

Police have arrested and charged a man after he is alleged to have rammed a police vehicle with a stolen car in the early hours of this morning.

Around 4:00 am, police were notified of a man asleep in a vehicle at Fairbairn. Police found a 25-year-old man asleep in Toyota with no number plates, which police believed was stolen.

When the man was woken by police, he attempted to drive away and crashed into the police vehicle. Shortly after he was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

Police also found a replica firearm and a substance believed to be meth inside the car.

The man was charged with disqualified driving, drug driving and breach of bail. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today, where further charges are expected to be laid.
