Police are investigating the death of a 77-year-old man who drowned at Pine Island on Thursday afternoon (21 February).

Around 2:50 pm, the man failed to surface while swimming and emergency services were called a short time later.

ACT Policing general duties officers and ACT Fire and Rescue officers commenced a search of the area where the man had been swimming. He was subsequently located and confirmed dead at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service officers.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

ACT Policing reminds all Canberrans and visitors to take care when swimming and watch out for each other when in and near the water.
