ACT Policing has uncovered important new information which indicates a possible link between two Canberra crime scenes, some 12 years apart, which may assist in solving the 1999 murder of McKellar woman Irma Palasics.

While the two crimes appear unrelated, police are releasing CCTV footage of an aggravated burglary which occurred in Phillip around 1.50am on Sunday, May 16 2010 in the hope of identifying those involved, and interviewing them.

The CCTV footage shows a group of teenagers break into the Pitch & Putt golf course in Irving St, Phillip by charging at the metal roller door of the storage area.

The male youths forced the roller door from its frame causing it to fall inside the premises.

Police believe one of the four young men involved in the Pitch & Putt burglary in 2010 may be able to provide information crucial to revitalising the Palasics homicide investigation. At this time, ACT Policing is unable to reveal the nature of the new information indicating a possible link between the crimes at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation

The Palasics murder is one of six major unsolved homicides in the ACT.

Around 9.30pm on Saturday, November 6, 1999, two men forced their way into the Palasics’ home. The elderly couple were bound and savagely beaten before the intruders ransacked the home, stealing cash and jewellery. Gregor managed to free himself and phone police however, the injuries suffered by his wife were too severe and she died at the scene.

ACT Policing is releasing the two-year-old CCTV footage of the Pitch and Putt golf course burglary in the hope that those involved, or anyone who recognises them, will contact police to assist with their investigation into the murder of Irma Palasics on November 6 1999.

Anyone who can assist is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I really feel for ACT Policing, but the Canberra society ACT Labor are experimenting with must accept:

* Drug fuc**ed persons accessing needlle exchanges in the Community;

* A wimpy politicised Court system that dares not flex its full powers under Law and is afraid of its own shadow; and

* Drug fuc**ed prisoners on the inside that the government is encouraging the continuation of their addiction as a “human right” that some brave Judges and Magistrates have sentenced;

I wonder about the timing of the release of information and the request for assistance.

As a Canberran who does not do drugs to enjoy life or “get by”; or blame others for my downfalls (but acknowledge others who have contributed to my successes), I am too busy keeping my eye on the road as to what’s going on now.

Where were you around 9.30pm on Saturday, November 6, 1999 or on 1.50am on Sunday, May 16 2010?

This is somewhat intriguing given that the young man the police mention would only have been around 10 years of age when the murder occurred.I’m looking forward to more being revealed.

Obviously they’ve got a DNA match.

One of the revolting little worthless scumbags is – quelle surprise! – the offspring of another worthless murdering scumbag.

Innocent until proven guilty but what would you know about the legal system, you refuse to participate.

Staying OT would be appreciated.

Is there such a thing as ‘family’ DNA profile? Maybe not a perfedt match, but obviously very similar? Son, brother?

The first individual walking towards the camera in the CCTV shots certainly has an unusual walking gait. Maybe someone will recognise him.

I doubt that forensics would be checking for dna samples at a run of the mill B&E, fingerprints I can believe but checking for dna samples does seem to be a little far fetched…

A bit of Wiki’ing confirms that familial DNA has resulted in the conviction of crims.

Identify the Pitch and Putt turkey, and the long arm will hopefully extend to the murderer.

Yes, a child gets half of their Autosomal DNA from one parent, and the other half from the other parent!

Whether the police testing is detailed enough to show familial similarity I have no idea. From what I’ve read, in the USA the FBI’s CODIS database contains just test a few markers which separates the sample taken from a sizable majority of the population. No idea whether it’s the same here … Maybe a match at that level has been found and that’s enough to re-open the investigation? Hopefully someone with a clue about Biology + our Forensic testing can fill us in!

That thought occurred to me as well.
There are certain features of a human anatomy that are passed down to the offspring genetically.
If either parents have “it” then the child is guaranteed to have “it” as well.
For example: short-sightedness, longer second toe.

but I couldn’t spot anything unusual from the four in the video.

A visiting sailor perhaps?

The potential link is that they’re all stupid. I agree, it’s a long bow.

Damn it, just spill the beans already for Pete’s sakes.

Judging by the video they left prints? They may have been run against unsolved crimes.

Alright that’s enough CSI Mr Fresh. Back away.

Nice to know the Police distinguish between major and minor homicides.

Where would one view said video ?

We have asked that question and will let you know when we do.
