This, hot off the wires at News.com.

POLICE have surrounded a house in suburban Canberra where a wanted man is holed up.

It was not known if he was armed.

“We’re encouraging people to stay clear of the area,” a police spokeswoman said.

The house is in Palmerston, a northern suburb about 20km from the city centre.

The siege began about 1.15pm (AEST), police said.

I think “unbelievable” its not that criminals don’t discriminate, it’s ACT Govt housing. 20% of all rental houses in the ACT are ACT Govt housing.

(No I am not saying that all ACT GH tenants are crooks)

Can’t understand why the cops didn’t just get Justice Higgins to attend the house, give the bloke his good behaviour bond then let everyone get back about their business.

A Krispy Kreme van got hijacked? I guess the cops will now be looking for the fattest person in Canberra they can find. Might be quite difficult though, this town is inundated with smelly fat lard arses.

I heard that a Krispy Kreame delivery van got hijacked.

“didn’t make the WIN local news so it musn’t have been that bad”

I don’t know what WIN thinks is news and what it doesn’t. Seems to me that unless everything is in a Media Release or said to them by a cop, they don’t care. Major incident a few months ago at a house in Griffith. They had police, ambulance and fire brigade (incl hazmat). I was walking to Manuka and stopped up the road to observe. The police initially had their guns drawn, then entered the house. Later exited and took someone away. I rang WIN news who arrived a couple of minuted after the arrest as fire brigade in chemical suits were entering the house. They stayed for five minutes, talked to a cop and left. Guns and chemical suits in Griffith and they didn’t care.

besides, this incident in Palmerston didn’t make the WIN local news so it musn’t have been that bad.

Recent murders in the Belconnen:

Elderly woman in McKellar.
Bus interchange – person thrown over the edge.
Asian girl in unit in Belconnen.

There’s more but I can’t be bothered.

Andy Pandy – your “pov” comment is ridiculous. Since when is Gungahlin regarded as “pov”, as you put it? Rather large houses up on the hill of Nicholls from where I’m sitting! many of them owned by business people who have done very well for themselves.

Does Charnwood come under Belconnen? I think it does, and it is also regarded as one of the worst suburbs in Canberra when it comes to house prices and crime.

Crime is everywhere you go – criminals don’t discriminate.

It is because you live (eh?) in pov Gungahlin. Move to Belconnen

Does this type of thing (house surrounded, etc) seem to occur more and more often, or is it just me?

I live off Kosciusko in Palmerston. Thanks for telling me – there goes my afternoon walk!

Heard sirens at lunch time but thought nothing more of it.

Heard on the radio it finished about 20-30mins ago. Don’t know if he surrendered or what but they got him.
