Police respond to mental health incident

ACT Policing has responded to an incident that occurred at Brindabella Park this afternoon (Friday, 19 September 2014).

Around 3pm this afternoon, ACT Policing responded to a report that a man, armed with an axe and molotov cocktail had driven his vehicle into bollards at a building at Brindabella Park.

The man was arrested at the scene by police. He is being assessed as possibly suffering from mental health issues.

During the arrest, an AFP officer sustained an injury and is currently receiving medical attention from the ACT Ambulance Service.

There are no national security concerns regarding this incident.

The difference being this guy was only trying to terrorise his former employers and not a whole city or country.

i gather the mental health issues come into play, though you have a point… we need better education on how to read the media – and write it.

Well … 3 cheers to the bollards

That’s my building, and we heard it was a disgruntled employee of a small private sector consulting firm – on the ground floor. That he’d tried to drive into the building – but stopped by the big silver bollards, and that he had tried to use a petrol bomb. Also that the Police were injured and had Tazer’d the guy
