1. Flynn grow house goes down:

Detectives from ACT Policing’s Territory Investigations Group Drug Team have located a large quantity of cannabis plants this afternoon (July 10).

About 12.40pm, police executed of a Drugs of Dependence Act search warrant on a residence in Vickers Crescent, Flynn. A search of the house revealed an elaborate hydroponic set-up in two rooms.

Police have seized approximately 40 mature cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $400,000.

AFP Forensic Services officers are en route to the address to conduct a scientific examination of the house. Inquiries are being made to locate the offender.

Investigations are continuing as to whether today’s seizure is linked to the weekend discovery of a hydroponic set-up at Page.

Police are appealing for any person who may have information about suspected drug activity to contact Crime Stoppers.

2. Missing man in Hughes:

ACT Policing is seeking the assistance of the general public in locating missing Hughes man Henk Van Wezel (pictured).

The 47-year-old is a resident at the National Brain Injury Foundation. He left the Foundation around 10pm yesterday (July 9) and has not been seen since however, some of his personal effects were located at the Hughes shops today around 1.45pm and handed in at Woden Police Station.

While police do not have immediate concerns for Mr Van Wezel’s welfare, he has a condition which requires medication. If he does not receive his medication within 48 hours his behaviour may become erratic. He may also approach people at random.

Mr Van Wezel has a speech impediment and walks with an uneven gait. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 192cm (6’3”) tall, with blue eyes, short blonde/grey hair, a fair complexion and a muscular build.

Mr Van Wezel is an active walker and has a good knowledge of Canberra but may not be able to orientate himself sufficiently to return to his place of residence. Police have searched around those areas where he is known to be seen, including the Hughes shops. Specialist Response and Security teams are currently searching the Federal Golf Course, which is another location he is known to frequent.

Police are appealing for any members of the public who may see Mr Van Wezel or are approached by him to contact Police Operations immediately on 131 444.

If you can help police contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website: www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Are you saying I’m dumb Swaggie?

Or do you want to take it outside?

Thank them in your post at the first instance then, not once you have been picked up on it.

Saying it goes without saying is a load of BS!

Police hauls could can easily be referred too in quantitative terms instead of financial terms.

Like ‘Police today seized enough weed to ruin 200,000 precious snowflakes lives’? The media would have to sensationalize it somehow, if not with money then with your precious children.

I think anyone in this thread praising the work of the police in getting *some* marijuana off ‘the street’ should reassess what exactly they are afraid of.

Come home Henk!

Seems to be dumb comment week….

Of course I’d congratulate the Police on a drugs haul Nosey, that goes without saying.

Sunshine – yes people who smoke it, sell and grow it already know about street values. I was referring to lowlifes on the outside of the drug business always reading how much money can be made and then succumbing to the temptation to jump on board. Police hauls could can easily be referred too in quantitative terms instead of financial terms.

I wonder if those same people lived in the 1920s if they’d have the same fear of their kids getting ahold of the dangerous alcohol if it was legalised.

And have a look at how much alcohol has enriched our society…..

Having not lived in that time, I cant say whether it has enriched society or not. However, it was still there in the old days, just that it was made at home illegally or by organised crime syndicates, as marijuana is today. Im sure the ‘outlaw bikies’ would like legalisation about as much as the mob liked the end of prohibition.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a good drop, but lets face facts, alcohol is a major problem in society.

I agree in part, but eventually it has to come down to personal responsibility and responsibility of those serving/selling it. Plus, Im sure given the chance, police would rather deal with potheads than drunks. I also distinguish between pot and other drugs such as ice and heroin, which can and do cause more serious problems.

I would be confident in saying that at least 80% of Police work would disappear if alcohol and drugs were never known to human kind.

At $10k per plant I can understand the temptation to grow weed.

Two big weed busts in a week, wow it might take a pothead an extra 5min now to source their stuff. When I start hearing of the 100th house being raided, Ill start believing the police are making a difference.

The worrying thing about this being $600k worth and still a drop in the ocean, shows just how much money is being funneled into mostly organised crime. While decriminalising and regulating might scare a lot of people, I wonder if those same people lived in the 1920s if they’d have the same fear of their kids getting ahold of the dangerous alcohol if it was legalised.

If all these guys are doing is growing a bit of grass, wheres the problem? Simple answer is that the problem is in the commercialization which has been created by the laws in place, update the laws and stop ruining grown adults lives.

40 mature plants eh? That’s about as many as they have at the cannabis college in Amsterdam.

hope they find Henk

I agree that we should be congratulating the police. My money is on the 2 houses being linked to each other. Two hydro set ups in the Belconnen region in a matter of days surely cant just be a coincidence.

There they go again “street value $400,000” so every low life loser thinks “I’ll have some of that” and starts dealing/ growing/ distributing. If they want to give a quantitative comparison why not quote drug hauls in terms of volume? Quoting a notional street value just encourages people….

don’t think it encourages people—–people who smoke it, sell and grow it already know about street values. as Nosey said we should be greatful for the police getting at least $600,000 worth of cannabis off the streets in a week.

buy it I meant.

How about giving them a pat on the back Swaggie knowing that in the last week alone they have removed heaps of grass off the streets.

Who cares what it’s “street worth” is?

I am happy knowing kids can’t but it.
