Officers from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations and Bomb Response teams are investigating an attempted robbery from an ATM which occurred at the front of the NAB on Wollongong Street in Fyshwick this morning (June 11).
Around 2:57am, police were called to the bank following the activation of the premises’ alarm. Police arrived at the scene to discover significant damage to the front and interior of the building from an explosive device.
It is not known at this time whether any money was stolen.
AFP Forensic Services have attended and are examining the scene.
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour around the Wollongong Street area overnight to contact Crime Stoppers.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an armed robbery at the Mobil service station in Melba which occurred around 10:20pm last night Thursday 10 June, 2010.
A male has entered the service station and threatened the attendant with a knife. The offender has stolen an amount of cash before fleeing towards Kingsford Smith Drive.
The offender is described as Caucasian, about 175 centimetres tall (5’9”), with an average build. He was wearing a dark balaclava, a black hooded jumper, black tracksuit pants with white stripes and white shoes.
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Melba or who knows the identity of the offender to contact Crime Stoppers.

3. Simpler than blowing up an ATM:
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an armed robbery at the United Petroleum service station in Fyshwick which occurred around 12:15am this morning Friday 11 June, 2010.
Two male offenders, one of whom was armed with a knife and the other with both a knife and a baseball bat, approached the service station attendant outside the store and threatened him. The offenders threatened the attendant and forced him back into the store to open the cash register, after which the offenders stole an amount of cash and cigarettes.
One of the offenders is described as having a Caucasian appearance, about 20 to 25 years of age, about 183 centimetres tall (6’), with a medium build. He was wearing a black jumper with a zippered collar, a black balaclava and black gloves.
The other offender is described as being about 183 centimetres tall (6’) with a medium build. He was wearing a black jumper and a black balaclava.
Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Fyshwick, or who knows the identity of the offenders, to contact Crime Stoppers.
