1. Of all the qualities a drug dealer requires to thrive, discretion is second only to mental arithmetic. A 35 year old Weston man appears to lack this key requirement:

A 35-year-old Weston man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after being arrested on drug trafficking charges.

About 9.30am yesterday (November 11), officers from the Territory Investigations Group (TIG) arrested the man after observing him conduct several alleged drug deals in the Weston area.

A search of the male by police revealed he was in possession of approximately 5 grams of suspected heroin and an amount of cash which police will allege was unlawfully obtained.

The man expected to face court today on one count of trafficking heroin and unlawful possession of stolen property.

2. Cook shops has played host to an armed restaurant robbery:

ACT Policing is investigating a robbery at a Cook Shops restaurant around 8:45pm yesterday (Monday, 10 November).

A male offender, armed with what police believe to be a firearm, entered the restaurant and demanded cash from a staff member. The staff member complied with the offender’s demands.

The male offender is described as 20-30 years of age, of olive complexion with a thin build. He was further described as wearing a long sleeve top and full length pants at the time of the incident.

3. ACT Policing are expressing disappointment on registration and licensing compliance:

The Compliance Targeting Team, comprising of ACT Policing officers and ACT Government representatives continue to be disappointed by Canberra drivers.

Using the highly-successful RAPID plate-recognition system, the team has targeted unregistered, uninsured and defective vehicles and unlicensed drivers on Canberra’s main arterial roads since 20 October, 2008.

To date, the team has detected 111 unregistered vehicles, 56 uninsured vehicles and issued 215 vehicle defect notices.

Of significant concern is that 126 unlicensed drivers, including 50 suspended and 6 disqualified drivers were detected.

Detective Superintendant Mark Colbran said it was driver’s continual disregard for compliance and road safety which is most disappointing.

“The fact that between January 2006 to September 2008, 22% of serious motor vehicle collisions involving injury in the ACT involved either unlicensed drivers or unregistered vehicles, highlights the importance of these types of operations to the safety of all Canberra road users.” Supt Colbran said.

“We will continue to target those drivers who fail to register and insure their vehicles, in all areas of Canberra”.

“These operations are for the safety of all Canberra motorists and we ask that all motorists be patient when approaching vehicle checking points”.

Motorists should be aware that the Compliance Targeting Team will be conducting a compliance operation on Adelaide Avenue, commencing at 3pm, Friday (November 14). Traffic delays should be expected.

So you think I should cancel the order for the body amour and the glock, and climb out from under the bed?

Nah, you’ve ordered them, why not use them to scare away Jehovah’s Witnesses?

If Kev was happy to sit out in the sunshine yesterday I think we’re all ok…. (although he wasn’t in Cook)

So you think I should cancel the order for the body amour and the glock, and climb out from under the bed?

I was referring to a lack of discretion if police were able to observe his dealings.

I think they were probably undercover, so the dealers not a complete dimwit.

P1, your suburb has had two crimes committed in it. It happens. It’s not turning into the Bronx overnight, so don’t worry.

Clearly not discrete enough to thrive in the business.

Yesterday my neighbour in Cook got robbed, and the day before the is a armed hold-up at the shops. What is happening to my suburb?

I was referring to a lack of discretion if police were able to observe his dealings.

You seem to specialise in ‘odd’ headers for the crime reports JB but I’m failing to see the arithmetic connection for the 35 year old no hoper. What am I missing?
