1. Pssst! Wanna buy a gas hot water heater?

ACT Policing is asking people to be on the lookout for cheap gas water heaters after five heaters were stolen from a construction site in Calwell overnight on February 6.

The external gas water heaters had been installed in residential units at the site on the corner of Webber Crescent and Were Street. Two silver extension ladders were also stolen.

The ‘Dux Endurance 26’ brand heaters are valued at approximately $800 each when new.

There was a plumber a while back that installed the same system in 10 houses. He’d go back a week later and steal it then put it in the next place.

When we were building our house these things were getting ripped off all the time. I chased off a guy trying to steal ours one night. The cop who lives next door and I gave him a run – with speed like that he should be on the Olympic team!

A good theif goes to Bunnings or Magnet Mart and buys (or steals) a device for getting non standard screws off, because non standard screws are anything but non standard.

Good plumbers install them with non-standard screws – the type that need more than a basic phillips head to get them off the wall.

As I understand it one of these a week are knocked off out in Gungahlin….often from occupied homes!
