1. The amazing efficacy of saying “give me the gun”:

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred June 12 at the intersection of Lawrence Wackett Circuit and Tharwa Drive, Theodore.

A white Holden Commodore sedan collided with the rear of a white utility about 5.50pm. Two males exited the rear passenger seats of the sedan, one with a stick or bat and the other with a knife. The driver and front passenger remained in the vehicle.

The 34-year-old male victim was assaulted by the male with the stick or bat and threatened by the male with the knife; he received minor injuries before fleeing from the two men.

Whilst away from his vehicle, several personal items including his house and car keys were stolen. The victim took a shovel from the tray of his utility and approached the offenders in an attempt to retrieve his property.

One of the offenders then asked the front seat passenger to “give me the gun”, the front seat passenger was seen to reach under his seat before the victim again fled the scene. No firearm was sighted by the victim.

Police are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the altercation at the intersection of Lawrence Wackett Circuit and Tharwa Drive, Theodore around 5.50pm, to contact Crime Stoppers.

2. Downer collision:

ACT Policing is investigating the circumstances surrounding a single vehicle collision in Downer in the early hours of June 13.

Police responded to the collision on Bradfield Street about 12.20am, where a Subaru sedan had left the road and collided with a fence. It is understood a number of nearby neighbours contacted police and emergency services after being woken by the collision.

The 25-year-old male driver suffered very serious injuries after part of the steel mesh fence pierced the driver’s side door and entered his abdomen. He was cut from the vehicle by ACT Fire Brigade and transported to The Canberra Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The 27-year-old male passenger received minor injuries and was assessed by ACT Ambulance at the scene of the collision. He is assisting members of the Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) with their ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information can contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

There is clearly less police presence on the southside. Given Canberra is so small, offenders can come from any side of town. People generally don’t crap in their own nest unless they are particularly stupid or on drugs. There does seem to be some reports of happenings on the northside that don’t make it to Johnboy’s posts though.

Clearly less police presence? What are you basing that on?

I think you’ll find crime stats are pretty similar throughout Canberra. By the way, most criminals ARE particularly stupid and/or on drugs.

If you see one I’ve missed Zig please let me know, we try to run all of them.

I suspect Johnboy may have some influence in it, with his “Tuggies Thuggies” type posts.

Considering that the police wraps are straight cut and pastes from the AFP media site, I don’t think JB has any influence over the content (unless he is moonlighting as the AFP media boss). Put simply, some areas have higher crime rates that other areas.

Put cheaper rents and public housing together and you attract a certain demographic that may be more readily turned to commit crimes.

The majority of public housing complexes are not in tuggeranong.. They are in the city and other areas.
Cheaper rent down south, but rent comparable to gungahlin, far north…

Maybe the witness was too traumatised to remember a better description than ‘white commodore sedan’. Just throwing it out there.

I really wish they could give more detail than ‘white commodore sedan’.

Whatever Felix. There is crime everywhere. Everyone just seems to be focusing on Tuggeranong for some reason. Go back through the Police Wrap Posts for the last week and you will see just as many stories of crime everywhere else in Canberra, not just Tuggeranong. I suspect Johnboy may have some influence in it, with his “Tuggies Thuggies” type posts.

“Several personal items including his house and car keys were stolen”

Wow. They stole his house!

Why is there so much crime in Tuggeranong? Every time you read the Police Wrap there’s a bashing or a robbery in that area.
