1. Bus driver bashed:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an assault on an Action bus driver at the City bus interchange today (July 13).

Around 3.25pm the victim asked three men not to board his bus, located at platform one, after a discrepancy over the price of a ticket. One of the offenders then punched the bus driver three times before all three men fled in the direction of Bunda Street.

The three men are described as being of Middle Eastern appearance and unshaven, with two of them aged in their mid to late teens and one aged in his mid 20s. The older man, who punched the bus driver, was further described as around 6’6” (198cms) tall, with a large build, a cut lip and was wearing a grey pullover, grey tracksuit pant and a red baseball cap. The other two younger men are described as around 5’8” (173cms) tall.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who knows the identity of the offenders to contact Crime Stoppers.

2. Hunting the Vikings bandits:

ACT Policing has released images [but not on their website] of one of the offenders who forcibly entered the Erindale Vikings Club in Wanniassa in the early hours of Monday morning (July 6).

Two male offenders entered the rear of the premises about 3.30am armed with knives, and made off with a sum of cash after binding-up and threatening two cleaning staff.

Police believe the men were disturbed during the robbery.

Anyone who recognises this man or who may have seen suspicious persons or activity around the club or in the club car park from 12.30am onwards is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

3. May as well tattoo “Born To Lose” on his forehead:

ACT Policing has arrested a 20-year-old Hughes man after a pursuit through Belconnen in the early hours of July 14.

Around 1am police attended the Kaleen shops in response to an alarm activation. A silver Holden Commodore sedan was observed a short distance from the shops and upon police approach immediately left the area at speed.

Police activated lights and siren and a short pursuit commenced. A short time later police terminated the pursuit. After the pursuit was terminated, the silver commodore sedan was seen to collide with a set of traffic lights at the intersection of Haydon Drive and Belconnen Way.

Two of the occupants fled the area and a third attempted to flee but was apprehended a short distance from the vehicle. Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area police were unable to locate the two alleged offenders.

The third man sustained serious injuries and was transported to The Canberra Hospital by ACT Ambulance where he remains under police guard with charges pending.

An amount of property suspected to have been stolen was recovered from the crashed vehicle. Police are making inquiries as to the registered owner of the car.

The collision and the events leading up to it, are being investigated by the Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team and is being overseen by the Australian Federal Police Professional Standards Unit.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity near the Kaleen shops, who may have witnessed the collision or who knows the identity of the offenders to contact Crime Stoppers.

bd84 would have to be a “sworn member” whatever that means.

Why would bd84 have to be a cop? Can’t he/she just have an opinion, bigred?

bigred is so anti-police he believes anyone who is seen to defend them in anyway is a cop.

hi all on totally different thing does any one know what was happening in scullin about 11ish on my way home from usual monday night out police had a black holden stop in the middle of the intersection southern cross + chewing with the driver being strip searched then police where looking for some one/thing on foot on mcginness then a police van had a small group of people outside the flats on keith st (behind the shops). ??

That is happening a fair bit around that spot, I saw the same thing in the same spot about three weeks ago. There has also been a fair amount of marked and unmarked cars around the area as well. But then again, it is close to Scullin.

I hope the bus driver is ok.

Yeah, they should have done the Aussie thing and held up a servo or smash some guys head into a concrete wall out in civic on a Saturday night. Bloody Foreigners!!

I wasn’t sure if their comment was a joke or not..

I was down in Emergency at Canberra Hospital this afternoon & there were light 6-8 Police around one guy that was involved in an accident. There were also 3 Police cars parked at the Emergency area parking. I just thought they were there because of the twat on Erindale Drive who crashed into the traffic lights at the Long Gully Road intersection.

It’s amazing how often the chase has just been terminated when the wanted car is involved in an accident…

Yes, it’s too bad the theives didn’t do a better job and also the world a favour by killing themselves in the collision. The only person able to prevent a high speed chase is the idiot driving the car the police have requested to pull over.

Also, given Haydon Dr is long and straight, the police would have been able to see them crash from as far away as the turn off to CIT (about a kilometre or so away), their account sounds perfectly plausable to me.

Hmmm we Kaleen residents will have to start dealing with criminals ourselves. Teach them to leave our nice suburb alone.

‘Police believe the men were disturbed during the robbery.’

Not just during the robbery…… probably all born that way!

The bus driver seemed fine.

They told all the passengers to disembark and board another 300 series bus and the bus driver just stood there waiting for the coppers to arrive. Two of them were interviewing him and then about six or eight cop cars showed up (didn’t think we had so many in Canberra….) and eventually headed off down Bunda Street/Braddon way.

Not the most intelligent thing this guy could do. You could say that catching a bus is his method of transport within the ACT.

All Action has to do is grab a picture of him place it up in every bus and wait for the guy to board once the guy has bordered the bus drive radios through for police assistance. And being human nature the guys is likely to be catching the same bus root around the same time of day.

That is why all the Australian Governments need to install dash board mounted cameras for every Police Car. Costly? Yes. But would be useful in court and in these situations. Could probably fund part of the cost by selling the rights of the footage to a TV network.

Either way, I know this issue has been discussed before here. But there seems be to much analysis of Police actions and not enough analysis of the crims. The Police aren’t chasing them for the fun of it… well I hope not anyway 🙂

If memory serves me correctly (and it might), there are cameras covering that area however they might not have been operating at the time. If the Cameras were working then they should have a images to release. The police should publish the images of the offenders and let society identify them. Someone has to know who these people are.
