1. Thuggies in Holder:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an assault that occurred last week in Holder.

About midnight on Thursday 8 April, a 32-year-old man was walking along an underpass in Holder when he was approached by four unknown males. One of the male offenders demanded the victim’s mobile phone and wallet. The victim refused to comply with their demands and was consequently assaulted by the male offenders, before they fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his hand, but had no property stolen. He reported the assault to police yesterday morning (April 13).

One of the male offenders is described as Caucasian, with blondish brown hair and was wearing blue jeans and a red T-shirt. A second male was described as Caucasian and was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt at the time of the assault.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the assault and attempted robbery, or observed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Holder to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

I must admit, this doesn’t really surprise me.

I live in that general area and there is a large level of anti-social behaviour that takes place around the scout hall/skate park near to the Holder border. This ranges from underage drinking, to drug use, to vandalism and burglary to burnouts to general abuse to passers by.

Fortunately when I walk in that area I am accompanied by a large dog which seems to act as a deterrent, I have been witness to all of the above.

But that said, the incident in mention could be completely unrelated to my observations.

He was a victim of lacking common sense.

Good on him!

caf: Actually, if it’s the story I heard second-hand (and therefore have absolutely no supporting evidence for beyond “my mate told me…”), the “minor injuries to his hand” were sustained in the act of knocking one of them out cold. Which is why, brave souls that such people are, “they fled the scene”.

Waiting for the “why help police when they give me a fine” replies.

Maybe I’m just cynical, but I tend to read “…had no property stolen” as “…had his weed stolen”.
