1. Chapman burglars quickly caught in Rivett:

ACT Policing arrested three males yesterday (July 15) after a burglary at a residence in Chapman.

About 12.50pm police received information from a member of the public about three males changing the registration plates on a dark coloured convertible.

Police attended a residence in Mentha Place, Rivett and located the three males. A search of two of the males revealed property, including keys to the vehicle, believed to have been stolen from a residence in Rene Street, Chapman sometime between 7.30am and 12.20pm yesterday.

A further search of the vehicle, a silver Mazda MX5 convertible, found further property believed to have been stolen from the Chapman residence.

All three males were arrested and conveyed to the City Regional Watchhouse. One of the males was released pending further investigations.

An 18-year-old Rivett man will face the ACT Magistrates Court and a juvenile male will face the ACT Children’s Court today (July 16) on burglary and theft charges.

ACT Policing’s acting South District Superintendent Rod Anderson said that ACT Policing is appreciative of any assistance from members of the public in reporting suspicious activities in their community. People wishing to report a crime can call for police attendance on 131-44 when they see it happen, or report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au,”

“Likewise, the owner of the vehicle and property that was stolen is extremely grateful for its safe return.” Acting Supt. Anderson said.

What is it with crims these days, lately we’ve had people walk down the street with clearly visible stolen property & now people are changing number plates on vechiles in broad daylight?

Back in the day people would just snatch & grab from homes or break into cars in carparks & the owner wouldn’t notice for an hour or two. Which by then the car would be dumped in a stormwater drain or torched in the Brindabella Mountains

ACT Policing would always be appreciative of people who are smart enough to take down the registration of dodgy people breaking into houses. It leads to quick arrests.

People wishing to report a crime can call for police attendance on 131-44 when they see it happen

Interesting suggestion, but I suspect they’re more likely to get an answer on 131 444.
