1. Fadden drug bust:

ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations Drug Team detectives early today (Tuesday November 16) executed a search warrant on a house in Fadden, seizing over $10,000 worth of steroids and other illicit drugs.

Following information received from members of the public, detectives executed the warrant around 5am on the Gowrie Street house, where they located the illicit substances in both the kitchen and a bedroom.

A 27-year-old man is expected to be summonsed at a later date to face charges relating to the possession of illicit drugs.

Today’s drug seizure follows on from a search warrant conducted at a Kingston unit last week, in which detectives seized a number of packages suspected to contain methyl amphetamine (ICE).

Information from the community is vital in helping police combat the production and distribution of amphetamines. This Friday, ACT Policing and Crime Stoppers are participating in a national phone-in day, “Say Something Day”, codenamed Operation Unification.

Anyone with any information about illicit drug use and distribution in the community is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, where they can speak with police anonymously.

Why are steroids still illegal and on the same schedule as heroin and other narcotic drugs?

You think they should be legal so Joe Average can take them to ‘get big’? Bad idea. Anyway, the fact is, like any illegal drug, those who want to use them know where to find them.

Otherwise, go live in a country where they are legal and you can get as big as you want.

Getting big for no good reason is pretty silly. http://thingsboganslike.com/2009/10/26/9-getting-huge/

Would any responsible doctor prescribe steroids to someone whose sole reason for taking them was to “get big”?

Doctors can still prescribe them, and I’d be willing to bet they are on the PBS. But that would be for recognised therapeutic purposes, and I am guessing “looking tough in a singlet” isn’t on the list.

That said, in a country where nose jobs, boob enhancements, bum lifts, botox, laser skin removal, etc are perfectly legal and exceptable to change the way you look, I can’t see why there can’t be safe and effective use of steroids for cosmetic reasons.

Why are steroids still illegal and on the same schedule as heroin and other narcotic drugs? Before the mid 1990s they were legal, you could be prescribed them by doctors and they were on the PBS. Now you have to deal with drug dealers with their outrageous prices and dodgy products. Steroids were made illegal as part of the 2000 Sydney Olympics bid. I agree that the use of performance enhancing drugs should be illegal for professional sportsmen but I can’t see why the ordinary suburban bloke who just wants to get big has to be denied the right because of some judgemental government which just thinks that steroid use is wrong. The Sydney Olympics are over – it’s time to dump the anti-steroid laws.

Because of the well documented and numerous health effects?

I guess “roid rage” rates up there with drug-fuelled / alcohol-fuelled crime. Don’t they shrink the man-bits and take the voice up an octave or two?

+1

I agree, and soldiers should be allowed to use them too. It is a shame that some our best soldiers are being sent home for using them when most people I served with used them with impunity.
