1. Wrinkly rolled at Jammo:

ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to an incident at the Jamison Shopping Centre in Macquarie yesterday afternoon that left an elderly lady in hospital with minor injuries.

About 12.20pm, the 74-year-old victim was withdrawing money from the Commonwealth Bank automatic teller machine at the Shopping Centre when a woman behind her attempted to take possession of her wallet.

A struggle occurred, with several members of the public coming to the victim’s aid. The offender then left the area on foot, running past the Commonwealth Bank and the Australia Post office, toward the bus stop on Bowman Street.

Police believe the female offender dropped her white Nokia mobile phone during the struggle. The phone was picked up by a female member of the public, who left the scene prior to police arrival. Police are appealing for this female to make contact with them in relation to the incident.

The female offender is described as Caucasian, about 5’3” (160cm) tall and about 25 years of age, with a slim build and brown hair just below the collar. She was wearing light coloured tracksuit pants with writing on the rear and a tight coloured T-shirt.

2. Info from Crimestoppers on the Ginninderra Drive collision:

ACT Policing has released the name of a 40-year-old man who was killed in a single vehicle collision in Belconnen March 16.

Wayne Fitzgerald, of Evatt died after falling from his truck at the intersection of Aikman Drive and Ginninderra Drive, Belconnen about 3.30pm yesterday.

And another bit:

ACT Policing is investigating an incident at Belconnen March 16 that has resulted in the death of a man.

About 3.30pm, police were called to the intersection of Aikman Drive and Ginninderra Drive, Belconnen amid reports that a man had been involved in a single vehicle collision.

Upon arrival police found ACT Ambulance officers attending to a seriously injured man. The man was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Initial police investigations indicate that the man was the driver of a truck and had fallen from the vehicle and beneath the rear wheels. The truck has continued down an embankment before coming to rest.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area as officers from the Collision Reconstruction and Investigation Team continue to conduct their investigations. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

3. Evatt man charged over fake abduction:

ACT Policing has summonsed a 28-year-old Evatt man to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court after he allegedly faked his own abduction and stole $6,909.25 from his employer.

The man, employed to service and maintain vending machines within the Canberra City area, told police on 24 October last year that he was abducted from the Australian National University while collecting money from a vending machine.

In a statement to police, he said he was restrained in his own car and driven to Captains Flat Road, near Queanbeyan, by two men who then took a sum of cash, his wallet and mobile phone and departed in a second vehicle.

Following a number of enquiries, ACT Policing conducted a search warrant on the man’s Evatt premises on 1 November, locating the mobile phone, and a number of cloth bags that had allegedly contained the money collected from the vending machine.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates court on 2 April charged with theft and make false accusation of an offence.

Evatt man charged over fake abduction:
charged with make (sic) false accusation of an offence.

False accusation?? Is that against another individual or party who, in this case, don’t even exist (the two men who drove him to Queanbeyan)?

Don’t they mean perjury? Or misuse of public resource, which in this case are the police officers who investigated the spurious crime?

Watch out cranky, free thinkers are dangerous here.

JB,

Wrinkley is about the most pissing off term you could apply to not only the lady involved, but , I suspect, a proportion of your readership.

Not amused. I’m still getting annoyed at being asked if I have a seniors card.

It’s all happening in Belco!!

Wrinkley might be considered by you as an affectionate term when applied to your granny but shows a lack of respect for elderly people and invites the sort of callous behaviour exhibited by the assailant in this case.
