1. Liquor store glassing:

ACT Policing is seeking three males in a red or brown Mazda 323 sedan with ACT number plates after an assault at the Belconnen Woolworths liquor department May 16, 2009 in which a 29-year-old staff member received cuts to his neck and upper arm.

Police were called to the location around 3.57pm today (May 16) when it was reported that three males described as being of Pacific Islander in appearance had a few minutes earlier entered the store.

One of the offenders became argumentative and is suspected to have broken a beer bottle on the counter and used it to assault and injure the staff member.

ACT Ambulance was called and General Duties police established a crime scene. AFP Forensic Services also attended. CCTV footage of the incident will be downloaded and examined.

Police were given a description of the vehicle used by the offender(s) and are continuing in their efforts to locate it.

Any witnesses who saw the incident and have not yet spoken to police, or can provide any information about the offenders should contact Crime Stoppers.

2. The quick way to stockpile pseudo-ephedrine?

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an armed robbery at the Brindabella Pharmacy in Garran in which a male offender threatened staff with a knife.

The offender entered the pharmacy around 10.40am, May 17, threatened the staff and stole a quantity of cash and drugs.

The offender then fled in the direction of Palmer Street in a stolen white Ford station wagon with NSW registration plates.

The offender is described as Caucasian, of slim build, aged in his mid-20s, about 5’8” to 5’9” (173cm to 175cm) tall, with black hair, unshaven, wearing a dirty white cap, an off-white coloured jacket and black baggy trousers.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a person answering this description or seen any suspicious activity in the area of the offence to contact Crime Stoppers

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

from memory, the woolies belco liquor shop is an island on its own. it is a scary section to work in at the best of times. the side door was always a problem, and i remember that they had planned to permanently lock it, prior to the trolley collectors making complaints about filling the bays from the main entrance.

re the comments about maoris, islanders etc, it doesn’t matter whether they were islander or not. every person is capable of violence. it is whether you can act on your impulse, or not.

Anyone is quite capable of voilence. your point? (other than being racist and seemingly stupid)
And I think you are wrong on the Lindsey Becket front too. and the murders occured in the late 90s. not 80s.

Qld – You’re an idiot. Try getting your facts right before sprouting racist and offensive crap everywhere.

If you go onto austlii.edu.au and look in the Victoria,Queensland and NSW courts you can find that Tongan and Samoan individuals have been involved in all manner of crime from bashing disabled drunks, to pack rape, to robbery, to the apex perhaps is the man serving 25 years for shooting a traffic policeman dead just to escape being caught for a minor crime.

Pacific Islanders are easily capable of violence.

Over a few months in Darwin on two occasions Maoris were known to be involved in violence. 2 Maoris stomped on a man’s head. Another Maori glasses a man who lost his eye. The victim was a soldier who can now not work in the army.

In Brisbane we’ve had several incidents. An islander named Moses punched a harmless man in the back of the head because Moses had too much to drink. At Logan QLD, 8 Samoans armed with wrenches allegedly bashed 3 smaller Aboriginal men to death in a park at midnight. It created racial tension. The trial is ongoing. I think that will be a large trial. I cant remember any other group of 8 men being put on trial for murder in Queensland. Again at Logan one islander bouncer was acquitted of killing another islander trying to get into the bar.

On the Gold Coast a Cook Islander weighing 160kg was refused entry and ended up dieing in the following altercation. His home boys threatened revenge. We had the Rao incident in Canberra where he was acquitted and the islanders were seen to provoke it. Even back in the 1980s Lindsay Beckett the Bega Schoolgirl murderer acomplice was a Maori.

Whoops, totally forgot to mention that the police were called but missed the guys by about 5 minutes. Descriptions, names and rego details were all given…

The local cops probably attended 200 or more incidents that night. I hope they have a review process to look for links in different matters, but I guess it may take time for them to review everything that happended that night and compare it to everything else.

If you think the two things are possibly linked then how about you give a quick call to crimestoppers, anonymous if you like. Maybe they will be able to make the link a bit quicker with your information.

Secondly, which outstanding community member would attempt to stop 3 pacific islanders, one armed with a broken bottle?

Marty McFly!!!

If only he had been on arvo shifts instead of night shifts none of this would have gone down.

The car was parked directly outside w/worths liquor, with a getaway driver.

Secondly, which outstanding community member would attempt to stop 3 pacific islanders, one armed with a broken bottle? I am all for helping out others, and have chased some crims before, but you need to know when to put your own safety first.

I don’t understand this. Did the alleged glassing happen in Woolworths, Westfield? That meant the Islanders had to escape thru the crowds of shoppers in the mall then get in their car which was presumably parked in the carpark then out via the boomgates. That leaves an awful lot of time for them to be caught before they finally made their getaway.

There is a carpark (which is a meter carpark 2 hrs I think) right outside the door of woolworths and the liquor dept is closest to that door (an easy escape past nothing)

It’s pretty damn sad when the community expectation (of this community at least) is that this sort of crime should carry a stiff punishment, but we’re all now accustomed to such criminals being ‘let off’. I think it’s time Canberra admits that our courts system really doesn’t reflect community standards.

Of course, there are times when community standards shouldn’t be met, but this doesn’t seem to me to be one of those times.

The bus could SQUASH the vehicle and then call the cops! Higgins could let them off on bail but it wouldn’t do any good.

i hope you’re kidding, tp…

The annoying things is that ACT Police were asking ACTION Buses to look out for this car, but the drivers weren’t informed of the danger of these people.

Look for OR stop and detain…. quite a difference there.

But sometimes buses will ram the vechile to bring it to a stop & then radio for the cops.

how does that help anything papadoc?
do you have a rego plate number? can they always be found at Hall Oval??

Maybe they should look for the group of Islander boys that were asked to leave Hall Oval yesterday afternoon about 5 minutes past 3. Considering they left in a red car (unsure of make/model) as well as being very intoxicated, I’d say it could lead somewhere…

Crime is the one thing we are far too soft on. How many times has the term ‘career criminal’ been used? These three will probably be arrested but will be out of the court revolving door and will be out on the streets……..like so many others.

The victim will suffer far more than just the physical scars of this attack and that is what the magistrates/judges seem to forget. The victim’s sentence is always longer than that of the criminal.

They must be really tough, brave guys – attacking a defenceless shop assistant with a broken bottle and then hooning off in their Mazda.

Uncle-em lost his left eye in a similar random attack fifteen years ago by a “tough” guy who thought glass was a good weapon of choice. It’s only been in the last four years that he hasn’t had to go to the doctor every six months or so to have the slivers making their way to the surface removed from his eyebrow and cheekbone.

You’re right farnarkler – I’d have them executed too.

Is that meant to read how I read that?

Well if the cops were looking for them, it’s probably a safe bet they weren’t doing so to give them an upstanding citizen award.

They’ll get caught and they’ll get put on the ‘justice’ Higgins roundabout. Half an hour in court and off they’ll go with a good behaviour bond. I’d have them executed.
