1. Have you seen my 42 tonne truck?

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 42-tonne truck and trailer stolen from a building site in Belconnen.

Police were called to the site in Catchpole Street near Bunnings around 9.50am this morning (Monday 19 April). A witness recalls hearing the truck around 1.30am on Sunday 18 April however, did not obtain a description of any offenders.

The stolen truck is described as a 1994 white Western Star prime mover with ACT registration YFC83F. The truck has HMD signage on the doors. The trailer is a white 40-tonne 1974 Brentwood low loader with ACT registration T1705C. The estimated value of the truck and trailer is $110,000.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the building sight, or has sighted the 42-tonne truck to contact Crime Stoppers

2. Honesty in Braddon:

ACT Policing has praised the honesty of a woman who collected and returned a significant quantity of cash which had gone missing from a Braddon business over the weekend.

The Hackett woman had been driving on Elouera Street in Braddon on Saturday (April 17) around 2.40pm when she was surprised to find a large quantity of cash in bills, receipts and a till reconciliation sheet blowing in the air.

The receipts identified a nearby business which had closed for the day, so the woman, together with another bystander, scooped up the bills and handed in the cash – nearly $5500 in total – at the City Police Station front office.

The grateful owner of the business was contacted and she attended City Police Station’s front office. It was thought that the proprietor of the store may have placed a container with the cash inside on the roof of her car whilst loading it, then forgot the container was there and drove away.

Ownership of the cash was verified by police and the money returned.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au

People have bad habits of puting things on the roofs of cars, I’ve seen cars going along the road with a hand bag on the roof or on the the bumper bar of a four wheel drive, and indeed I’ve done it myself.

I’m just waiting for the day when a toddler is merrily seated on the roof top of a car that is cruising down the road, and the driver appears perplexed as to why everybody is screaming at her…

and the toddler isn’t harmed?

I honestly hope that the business rewarded her honesty with at LEAST a paid dinner for two at a nice restaurant.

Great effort on the return of the money.

that whole theft by finding thing a few weeks ago possibly would have scared them into doing it.

or they could have just been nice people.

Dude, where’s my prime loader?

I bet the owner will be checking the roof of their car everyday after work from now on, though I would be mixing it up now that everyone knows that a business owner in Eloura St carries $5,000 with them at closing time on a Saturday. Good to know that there are still decent people out there.

Good to see some people still have integrity. Handing back that cash is a sure sign of a high quality human.
