1. Bad girls of Curtin out on a spree:

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance to identify a female offender who attempted to rob two south-side businesses last night (July 18).

About 6.10pm the female entered the 5 Star supermarket in Kambah and threatened the male attendant with a weapon, passing him a note which demanded money. She left a short time later with nothing after the attendant challenged her, and was last seen running up Mannheim Street toward Sulwood Drive.

The same female then entered the Shell Service Station on Strangways Street in Curtin about 6.55pm, again passing a note demanding money, and again making off with nothing after she walked outside and was locked-out of the store. This time she was brandishing a knife. She was last seen running towards Carruthers Street.

Neither of the store attendants were injured during the incident, and ACT Policing is reminding people who are threatened with a weapon not to confront the offender. Attention should instead be paid to obtaining a thorough description of their appearance, clothing and mannerisms to assist police in their identification.

The female is described as about 15-18 years old, 5’2” in height and of slim build with blue eyes. She was wearing a brown and grey patterned jacket with a furry, brown hood lining, black jeans and white sneakers, and was carrying a green bag.

Anyone who thinks they may know this female or who may have seen someone matching this description last night is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

I hear them say ‘Caucasian’ all the time for goodness’ sake.

Exactly right.

I get taken for all sorts of races, a lot of different backgrounds, the only true australian’s are aborials

This does remind me of something I do come across fairly regularly. I often have cause to ask people if they identify as being Aboriginal or TSI. Can anyone guess the answer? “No, I am Australian”. They are usually asked to re-think their answer !!!! I don’t think it is meant in a racist manner, it is said as a default answer to identify themselves as being caucasian, but wrong none the less.

Hugh:
Note the “this time she was brandishing a knife” on the incident 45 minutes later?
(ie: it is noteworthy in that apparently it was a different weapon before)

No idea what she was carrying before, but as a worst-case, a used hypodermic carries an implicit threat, and Canberra has its fair share of drug-addicted street kids.

Auntymen said: she said she ‘couldn’t give a description because that would be racist.’

LMFAO.

Dumbest thing Ive heard in a while, and I read a lot in here.

LOL at anyone who actually gives the money over to a skinny skanked out 15-18 year old GIRL!!

Seriously.. How ‘dangerous’ could she really be…knife or no knife

How the hell did this become an issue of race, who gives a shit!!!

The funny part is she was crap at robbing people, I wish I saw it!!!

Possums???

Wrong spelling of Arboreal, but maybe.

“Aborial Families Living in England and Wales in 1891 using the Internet’s largest Family History Database at Ancestry.com”.

Well, even the aborials came from England?

Lol.

Maybe the default is Caucasian.

WTF?

If the default is Caucasian, then that really does unfairly shine a bad light on other ethnic groups, simply because, people will associate ‘middle-eastern’ or ‘aboriginal’ with crime reports more than they will ‘Caucasian’

According to google, aboreal is something out of Star Trek. Seen these guys holding up a servo recently – http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Xindi-Arboreal

I think the aborials live in the canberra aboretum

Maybe the default is Caucasian.

I am actually with IrishPete!
Why is she not labelled as “white bogan female, fondness for fuzzy parkers”, with a police warning to watch out for these white, fuzzy agents of destruction in your suburb. WARNING, NEWS FLASH: White bogan female crimes are up 62%, Pauline Hanson speaks out against white bogan females, white bogan females stealing our middle class welfare payments etc. Maybe she is none of the above but many radio/TV shows villify certain groups and I think that was IrishPetes point.

Why is it important to many other news stories that the person being described is clearly identified as “not one of us” (insert middle eastern, african, aboriginal- sure your imaginations can go wider)
There is a real ” them and us” mentality that the current affair shows lap up.

Auntyem- hope he is OK, I know first hand how scary this can be.

A couple of years ago my nephew was assaulted in Braddon and when the “boys and girls in blue” asked the only witness to the attack what the offender looked like, she said she ‘couldn’t give a description because that would be racist.’

Sorry to hear about your nephew but that witness quote is classic

interesting how the police don’t mention her ethnicity. if she had been “of Middle Eastern Appearance” or indigenous, this would have made it into the headline. how about some equal treatment, boys and girls in blue?

Maybe the witnesses couldn’t pick one Detective Einstein

Being able to see the eyes above the scarf would be enough to see the skin wouldn’t it?

Exactly right, the information comes from the witnesses after all ….. unless you wish to insinuate the police are making it all up, just to make headlines ? Anyways, I frequently see descriptions given as “caucasian” or is it wrong to say that as well.

Well you’ve got to understand the ancient greeks ran afghanistan for hundreds of years. So there’s a bit of blonde hair running around there as well.

Standard “middle eastern”? Remember that for hundreds of years they extracted children as tribute from central europe and their slaving fleets plundered northern europe as far afield as iceland.

So there are a lot of genes for blues eyes floating around out there.

There’s exceptions to almost every rule, all part of the wonderful world we live in.

PsydFX said :

They can have blue eyes too.

Yeah. Also silver/gray as well. And didn’t that girl in the famous “Afghan Girl” photo have green eyes?

Not to mention my female chinese friend whose son has blue eyes. Yes, her husband is of Irish descent but wasn’t brown/black eyes a dominant gene? At least that’s what I was taught back in school (late 80’s).

Are you for real ??

I think this same person did try again, we had it over the bus drivers radio to look out for this guy last night & then again today, but with a helper in Lonsdale Street Braddon-yes she did (attempt) another robbery. That was around 13:30, but I forgot most of the description given of the other offender.

But then again she can’t be that smart if she walks outside & then gets locked out. I wonder if more robberies are occurring thanks to the money problems worldwide? As we are seeing more not so clever criminals & this latest one read in the paper about there being more knife crimes.

Why the hell wouldn’t they include racial appearance if it’s known? It’s not like everyone from {insert racial group here} is a criminal, and if it helps capture the offender, then great.

How do you know she wasn’t of Middle Eastern appearance? They can have blue eyes too.

Consider yourself warned G-Fresh.

Shut up Pete

Kambah, again?

Wonder if her note said: “I’ve got a gub.”

Just look through their list of repeat offenders, I’m sure she will be there already.

Third time lucky?

I think she should find a different career. She’s really not terribly gifted at armed robbery.
