1. Belconnen’s crime monopoly broken by Griffith sledgehammer assault:

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred at Throsby Street, adjacent to the Griffith shops March 19.

About 12.15am March 19, police attended the location after receiving reports of an assault. Police found a 23-year-old female victim seated in the rear of a vehicle with lacerations to her head.

The victim stated she had been about to get into the vehicle with three friends when they noticed a group of three males in a nearby alleyway. At this time they ignored the males and entered the vehicle.

Once all four occupants were inside the vehicle, a sledgehammer smashed through the rear windscreen. The 23-year-old woman received lacerations to her head. Police seized the sledgehammer for forensic analysis.

ACT Ambulance officers attended the scene and conveyed the victim to The Canberra Hospital for further treatment.

Police would ask that anyone who may have seen three males acting suspiciously around the Griffith shops, or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

2. Belco strikes back with Florey thuggy mugging:

ACT Policing has released a forensic facefit of a male offender who allegedly assaulted and robbed a 23-year-old man in Florey on Saturday, March 1.

The victim, a 23-year-old Florey man, was walking alone west on Ratcliffe Crescent around 10pm on March 1 when he was the subject of an unprovoked assault by several males, who punched and kicked him and demanded his wallet.

The victim was not carrying his wallet but surrendered his credit card.

The assailants then left the area.

The victim suffered a cut lip and bruises to his face and body.

The main offender is described as a Caucasian male aged in his early 20s, approximately 168cm -170cm tall with a slim build and lightly tanned skin, dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.

He was wearing a brown T-shirt, red and white sneakers and a blue baseball cap with a white logo on the front.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen suspicious persons or activity in the area of Ratcliffe Crescent, Florey on March 1, or who may recognise the offender in the facefit to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

(No facefit actually available at this time)

3. Police break up school yard girl fight:

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred at Caroline Chisholm High School yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to the Chisholm school about 3.30pm after reports a female student was being assaulted by a number of other female students.

The Year 8 student suffered a lump and grazing to her head as a result of the incident.

4. Casino car-jacking:

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred near the Canberra Casino last night (March 19) in which a man was assaulted and had his vehicle stolen.

About 11.15pm, the 43-year-old victim left the casino and walked to his car, which was parked a short distance away on Binara Street. After getting inside the vehicle, two men opened the driver and front passenger doors and yelled at him to get out, hitting him in the head before he exited the vehicle.

The two offenders and a third man then got inside the vehicle and drove away at speed.

The victim was assessed by ACT Ambulance Service at the scene but did not require any further medical treatment.

The stolen vehicle was located a number of hours later at Belconnen High School. It had been set alight, with ACT Fire Brigade extinguishing the flames prior to police arrival.

One of the male offenders has been described as about 30 years old, with a beard and wearing a dark hooded jumper. A second male offender is described as about 20 years of age, also wearing a dark hooded jumper.

The vehicle stolen during the incident was a green 1998 Nissan Maxima with ACT registration plates.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

VG the bad guy in ‘For your eyes only’ seemed to go a pretty good job of throwing a Honda at Mr Bond at the end of the ski chase.

Must of been a pretty serious schoolyard fight if the cops had to break it up. What were the teachers doing?

Taking bets?

Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” would have to be the most overrated songs of the 1980’s. That or “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell.

Too big and clumsy, a wakizashi however is easy to conceal, and very effective.

Good point. The roo man was Garran – in Woden.

So then it must have something to do with suburbs that begin with the letter G.
