1. A step up from a white commodore:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a spate of burglaries which occurred in the early hours of this morning, 1/12/2010, in the Weston Creek and Woden areas.

Between 1.30am and 3.30am numerous businesses were burgled. Police believe the incidents to be related. A silver coloured Subaru Impreza WRX sedan with at least two occupants is believed to have been involved in these incidents.

In each case it appears that windows were broken to gain entry although at this stage it is unclear what quantity of property has been stolen. Police believe the offenders had been intent on stealing money from the premises but in their search caused damage inside the premises.

Police would like to urge anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the Weston Creek or Woden area or saw any suspicious activity around these times to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information may be provided anonymously.

2. Mugged outside of Rocksalt:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery at the Hawker shops last night (Wednesday, December 1).

About 11.10pm, a 36-year-old man was leaving the Rocksalt restaurant when he was approached by three unknown men. One of the men was armed with a baseball bat and another with what has been described as a firearm.

The three male offenders forced the man back in the restaurant, and demanded he open the safe. He complied with their demands, and handed over a sum of cash to the offenders.

The male offenders were last seen leaving the location on foot in the direction of Belconnen Way.

The male victim did not sustain any injuries during the robbery.

The three male offenders are described as Caucasian, aged between 16-19 years old, with slim builds. They were wearing dark coloured clothing, hooded jumpers and bandannas covering the lower half of their faces.

Anyone who was in the area of the Hawker shops around the time of the incident last night who may be able to assist police with the investigation are asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

3. Death in the Lake:

ACT Policing has commended the members of the public who rushed to assist a man in difficulty in the waters of Lake Burley Griffin early this morning (Thursday December 2).

About 7am police were contacted regarding an unconscious male near the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin. The 66-year-old man had been rowing with another man when their rowing scull overturned.

The overturned scull was seen by three young women in a nearby dinghy. They dragged the scull to the edge of the lake and then four people running beside the lake assisted in dragging the man clear and onto the bank. The runners then commenced CPR on the unconscious male until police and ACT Ambulance arrived.

The male was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Woden Patrol Sergeant Ben Willis has praised the prompt actions of the members of the public who dragged the unconscious man to the bank and commenced CPR until medical assistance arrived.

Police are still investigating the cause of death. A post mortem will be conducted tomorrow (Friday 3 December).
