1. Alleged stabbiness in Oaks Estate:

ACT Policing Detectives have arrested a 43-year-old Queanbeyan man today (16 September) after an alleged stabbing in Oaks Estate last night.

Police were called to the Oaks Estate residence around 8pm after reports were received of a disturbance occurring at the location. Police located the victim with lacerations to his legs and cuts to his hands.

Police will allege the offender attended the victim’s address to confront him, resulting in the offender allegedly stabbing the 39-year-old victim.

The alleged offender was arrested in Civic this afternoon (16 September) and was charged with intentional wounding.

2. Come for a ride on my silver bicycle?

ACT Policing is seeking information about a suspicious man seen outside the IGA supermarket in Lyneham on Saturday afternoon (September 12).

The man, who was riding a silver bicycle, approached a 7-year-old girl out the front of the supermarket about 5.30pm, asking her if she wanted to come for a ride with him.

The child said nothing and walked closer towards the entrance of the shop, at which time the man left the area.

He is described as about 40-50 years old and of a medium build, with short white/grey receding hair and a short grey goatee beard. At the time he was wearing a black hooded jumper, black track pants and brown shoes.

ACT Policing encourages parents to discuss ‘stranger danger’ with their children to ensure they know how important it is not to give their private details to people they don’t know. Kids should also be educated on inappropriate behaviour patterns, including unacceptable touching or language, and the offering of gifts or transport.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may know the identity of the male described is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

ACT Policing is investigating an incident which occurred in Dickson around 4.40 am today (September 20).

The 24-year-old victim was walking north along the Dickson side of Northbourne Avenue to her home, when she was approached from behind by a male who assaulted her and threatened her at knife point.

The male dragged the victim into a grassed area approximately 15 meters from Northbourne Avenue and proceeded to sexually assault her.

The victim managed to bite the offender on the hand and escape, running onto Northbourne Avenue and flagging down a taxi, then a passing police patrol.

Immediate police patrols of the area failed to locate the offender. The victim described the offender as Aboriginal, approximately 5’9″ (176cm) tall, estimated to be aged between 30 to 40 years, with a slim build, stubble on his face and wearing a red beanie. The offender may also have an injury to one of his hands.

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the attack or suspicious activity in the area, or who may know the identity of the offender to contact Crime Stoppers.

4. Majura Road fatality:

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred on Majura Road around 7am today (September 19).

Witness accounts from the scene indicate a tipper truck towing a dog-trailer carrying gravel was travelling north on Majura Road, when a four-wheel-drive travelling in the opposite direction, at high speed, crossed onto the wrong side of the road colliding with the truck.

The driver of the truck was the sole occupant of the vehicle and escaped injury. The driver of the four-wheel-drive was also the sole occupant of his vehicle and died at the scene.

Police have arranged for Supportlink to provide support services to the driver of the truck and the witnesses at the scene.

ACT Policing Traffic Operations continued a speeding awareness campaign throughout Canberra this week, Sergeant Chris Meagher said “It is clear the message is not getting through, obey the speed limit and pay attention when you are driving. If you think you are unfit to get behind the wheel due to fatigue or because you have been out the night before, don’t drive or get some one else to drive for you!”

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision and are yet to speak with police to contact Crime Stoppers.

5. If at first you don’t succeed:

ACT Policing is investigating an aggravated robbery which occurred around 7.30 pm yesterday outside the Erindale Shops at Wanniassa.

The 17-year-old victim was sitting on a bench outside the Harris Scarfe shop, when he was approached by an unknown male who requested money. The victim refused to hand over cash and the male walked away, only to return and make the same demand whilst holding a knife.

When the victim declined again to hand over any cash the offender punched the victim causing him to fall over. The offender removed the victim’s wallet from his pants and fled the scene in the direction of Erindale College.

The offender is described as approximately 6’1” – 6’3” (186-190cm) tall, with olive skin, a dark beard and wearing white shoes, black tack pants and a dark blue hooded jumper.

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or who may know the identity of the offender to contact Crime Stoppers.

From the skid marks on the scene, it seems the truck driver went a *long* way over to the left to try avoid the 4WD, even to the point of almost running into the gully himself, before swerving (after the collision) across the road and running into the embankment. A bit of a hero (albeit unsuccessful) there perhaps.

Ironically, while driving down there the next day, just a click or so north, a fool in an ACT-reg 4WD passed me and 3 other cars at speed on a double line stretch…Darwin in action.

How do you know the 4WD owner didnt have a heart attack or some other medical problem?

Could have happened if he was in a Honda Jazz.

Why be coy about it? How about:
Possible sighting of rock spider in Lyneham shops.

Have they named the person who was killed?

Has the person that died been named yet?
