2. Wednesday night saw a glassing in Kaleen:

The victim sustained lacerations to his face and neck and was hospitalised.

The alleged offender fled the scene but a number of police resources were deployed to search for him and he was arrested around 9pm by members of ACT Policing’s Specialist Response and Security team in Onkaparinga Crescent, Kaleen.

About 8.30pm yesterday, the female victim was working in an office at the ANU when the male offender allegedly entered, threatened the victim with a knife, demanded money and then struck the victim causing her to fall.

The offender then fled the building in the direction of Marcus Clarke Street toward the city and the victim’s purse was recovered at the bottom of a stairwell with cash and debit card missing. The victim was treated at the scene.

The offender is described as being European in appearance, aged in his late 20’s to early 30’s, of solid build with broad shoulders and wearing a black coat and black gloves.

4. Even worse in Gungahlin earlier today with a burglar using a jemmy bar to demand the keys to his victim’s Honda Civic:

The incident occurred around 11.20am today when the victim, who had been asleep upstairs in his townhouse, heard a noise downstairs and went to investigate.

He was then confronted and threatened by the offender, who is described as Caucasian, approximately 183cm (6’0”) tall, with a slim build, dark hair and short, dark facial hair. The offender was wearing a silver-coloured top and dark track pants.

whale oil beef hooked

i used to walk to work in civic at about midnight, from knox street watson, and home again at 5am. never was worried about being jumped on, knifed or otherwise bothered. also would walk from the harcourt to watson, thursday night after a skinful. walked everywhere in belco, and in kambah. never bothered by anyone.

I walk a lot – to the hyperdome and back at night, but apart from the motorist who high beams me (ah, thank-you very much) it is all good.

The world isn’t getting more violent, it’s just reported more.

I used to walk from Kaleen Sports Centre home to Giralang plenty of times between oh 1994 to 1997 – along the drains then over the AFL oval in Giralang – up fornax etc.

If I saw anyone I generally knew them and had a chat – never ever got into any trouble liek glassings, good ole fisticuffs or even verbal abuse.

Maybe I am getting old, but the world is getting more and more violent.

I used to walk through Glebe Park most Saturday and Sunday mornings, stumbling back to a mates in Reid, lived in a flat in Griffith and walked home from teh Durham with my back teef floating many times…never felt more than drunk – these days I walk home from the shops after dark and I’m jumping at shadows…and then there is my hobby for * middle of the night photography *, watchuing my back with $3k worth of gear……such is the sad way the world is going…

@ Danman. Jaysus, you think you’re getting old. I read this post too quickly and read: “…and then there is my hobby for middle of the night pornography, watching my back with $3k worth of gear…” Nasty!

I used to live near the lights on Maribyrnong across from the one or two shops that are still operating there near St Michael’s (?) school. Far Ken Elle. I think I got to hear and see the exploits of every bonehead in the suburb. I indulged in a little ‘late night photography’ of my own when two dumb ****s decided to have a bit of sport with some large sticks and the pedestrian light button at 1am one school holidays. Amazing how a few flash bulbs going off can make a couple of errant teenagers cut and run.

Yup, welcome to Grand Theft Auto: ACT, where you can glass a random bar patron, knife a poor helpless student and threaten some poor bloke with a metal bludgeoning instrument, and steal all his gear.

Sounds like a fun game!

Glassing? Weak prick. The lowest of the low acts.

Hope his ass gets glassed in the big house…

It was getting rougher in our street by the time we left Kaleen nearly 12 years ago. Can’t say that Gungahlin was much of an improvement in many ways ….

Still have a soft spot for the old place, and many memories both happy and sad.

“Whole world’s coming to an end Mallory”

I always thought it was a fairly OK suburb before I lived there, but when I left in March this year after ten months living there, I nearly broke down and wept with relief. Oh… my… God.

Good ole Kaleen. This is why I always hated walking home in the dark when I lived there. Not for fear of someone glassing me and being found a few streets away, but just because of all the wierdos.
