1. From Duffy to Yass:

ACT Policing detectives will be seeking the extradition of two alleged offenders from NSW today after an overnight search for a stolen car by NSW and ACT police led to a medical centre in Yass where one of the offenders had sought treatment for a lacerated thumb.

Police began their search for the stolen vehicle, a Suzuki Vitara, around 12.45pm yesterday after a woman reported seeing it leaving at speed from the driveway of her Duffy home after the house had been burgled.

About 20 minutes later, police then noticed a vehicle matching the description of the Suzuki Vitara parked in the driveway of a house in Monkman St, Chapman. Two males wearing dark clothing and gloves were seen to leave the house quickly, get in the Suzuki, and leave the location at speed.

A pursuit was engaged but later terminated, although police patrols continued to maintain a lookout for the ACT-registered vehicle, which had been reported as stolen a week before. NSW Police were also advised.

About 2.20pm, NSW and ACT police located the vehicle at the back of a residence in Yass. A search of the immediate area located the two alleged offenders in the medical centre nearby. The injury to one of the offenders is suspected to have been sustained when the man had climbed a barbed wire fence to avoid apprehension.

A number of items confirmed to have been stolen from burglaries at the Chapman and Duffy houses were recovered from the Suzuki.

The two alleged offenders, a 23-year-old from Kambah and a 20-year-old from Aranda, will appear in the Goulburn Local Court today, where their extradition will be sought back to the ACT to face several property charges, including burglary, theft and traffic-related offences.

2. Ticketek stick up explained:

ACT Policing is currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Ticketek outlet on Akuna Street in Civic earlier this afternoon (July 22).

Around 1.20pm the man entered the premises and passed a note to the attendant, demanding money whilst threatening her that he had a gun. He then fled the store after an amount of cash was passed to him. The staff member did not see the gun, and was not injured during the incident.

The man is described as about 20-30 years of age with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark coloured cap with writing on it, a dark coloured waterproof jacket with a light coloured shirt underneath and light coloured pants and was carrying a grey plastic shopping bag.

The man was last seen walking towards London Circuit, and was thought to have been loitering in the vicinity of the Ticketek outlet for a number of minutes before entering.

Members of AFP Forensic Services are currently examining the scene, whilst members of the Territory Investigations Group have taken carriage of the investigation.

Anyone who may know the identity of this male or who may have been in or around the Ticketek outlet just prior to 1.20pm and remember seeing a suspicious man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Aaah, thank you Caf. I was reading it as it was her car.

She saw it leaving her driveway, but it wasn’t her car.

Am I the only one who’s a little confused? The police began searching for the vehicle at 12.45pm, after a woman reported it stolen from her driveway (which seems to suggest it was stolen that day) and then a few lines later, ‘police patrols continued to maintain a lookout for the ACT-registered vehicle, which had been reported as stolen a week before’.

Was the vehicle in fact stolen a week before and the police search for it began yesterday?

NB – I’m not having a dig at the police here, I’m just a little confused.

Was of Caucasian appearance?

It strikes me that Irishpete was on to something a few posts back…

Personally if I was the attendant, I would have written on the note “show me the gun and i’ll show you the money” and passed it back.

All the crims must be either from Yass or seeking medical treatment in Yass.

The sentences are lenient here, hence why they venture within our boundaries, and the medical services are better in Yass.

Not a bad plan really.

That’s a joke, yes?

Well the first story is quite fishy. Vitaras don’t go ANYWHERE at speed. Just ask all my tailgaters. They are horrifically easy to steal though, especially if the back window is a zip..

Maybe it was one of those new-fangled fancy ones.
