1. More on the anti-Rebels Raid:

ACT Policing has charged three men following today’s (April 23) operation targeting illegal activity.

Earlier police executed warrants at residences in Chisholm, Belconnen, Turner, Dunlop and Lyneham where searches of the homes uncovered a number of restricted weapons, ammunition, steroids, substances suspected of being cocaine and methlyamphetamine, cannabis, a hydroponic set-up and cash.

As a result of today’s raids, three people with links to the Rebels motorcycle club, have been arrested and charged with drugs and weapons offences.

    · A 24-year-old man from Isabella Plains has been charged with one count each of traffic in a controlled substance other than cannabis, possession of a drug of dependence, possession of a prohibited substance and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon without authorization. He is expected to front the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (April 24).

    · A 24-year-old man from Belconnen has been charged with one count each of possession of a prohibited substance, possession of a declared substance without authority and possession of ammunition. He has been bailed from the Regional Watch House to appear before court at a later date.

    · A 33-year-old man from Chisholm has been charged with one count of possession of a drug of dependence. He has also been bailed from the Regional Watch House to appear before court at a later date.

A fourth man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

    Investigations are continuing.

ACT Policing apprehended six people yesterday (April 23) following three separate traffic incidents in Canberra’s north.

Four juveniles were arrested following an alleged pursuit in Dunlop, which commenced about 10.55am. The pursuit ended when the allegedly stolen vehicle was abandoned in Baume Crescent, the four occupants fleeing the scene. Two of the young people were apprehended immediately after whilst the other two were arrested a short time later.

One of the juveniles, a 16-year-old male, appeared before the ACT Children’s Court this morning on traffic and drug charges whilst the other three young people, aged between 15 and 17, will be charged with ride in motor vehicle without consent and will appear in court at a later date.

In a separate incident a 27-year-old Palmerston man is expected to be charged with exceeding the posted speed limit, failing to stop and a number of other offences following a short pursuit in Gungahlin.

Police commenced pursuing the vehicle after the driver allegedly drove in an erratic manner past officers conducting speed detection duties on Kalianna Street about 10.35pm. The vehicle reached speeds of up to 180kph before being abandoned at the end of Horse Park Drive.

The driver was apprehended a short time later after police inquiries resulted in him presenting himself at Gungahlin Police Station.

A 63-year-old Ngunnawal woman will also be summonsed to appear in court after she was allegedly identified driving her vehicle with a blood alcohol reading of 0.21, four times over the legal limit.

Police intercepted the vehicle in the car park of the Ngunnawal shops on Jabanugga Avenue just after 6.00pm after receiving reports that the vehicle had collided with a nearby brick wall a short time earlier.

If bikers are being targeted by the police can someone explain to me why the police allow bikers to ride around intimidating everyone with their modified exhaust systems with no mufflers. If the police allow this illegal biker behaviour what other illegal biker behaviour do they also condone? Some people think the police are simply too scared of the bikers to do anything.

Yeah, shitting themselves

Not sure about the ‘intimidation’ but there’s certainly bikes getting about that wouldn’t have a hope in hell of passing noise tests.

The thing that puzzles me most about the whole ‘shot gun’ exhaust thing is why would you bother with all the hassle of dealing with a crap USA (wet back) built bike like a Harley when you get better performance out of a jap. retro knock off and if you want the bad-arse sound you can just jam a screwdriver through the muffler a couple of times.

OMG …… lol

In fairness to the papers, the AFP have to also tell people about what they’re doing.

Bikers have been big news for a very long time now.

Just because it’s not seen in the papers, doesn’t mean they are or aren’t being targetted any more or less. The papers report what is popular at the time and what will sell (with a little bit of exaggeration thrown in) Just because it is being reported more frequently now, doesn’t mean they are being targetted more. That goes for everything, not just bikies.

Clearly you haven’t bought a newspaper in the last decade.

Why don’t you discuss the points, rather than just casting insults at people with whom you disagree? Slinging the most insults doesn’t win you the argument, something you clearly haven’t grasped yet.

Willo – The short answer is yes. Insurers have nothing to do with how Police conduct operations.

As for bikies there are no new laws as yet. Couple of states are looking at anti association laws for gangs who are determined by the minister. (that is my understanding anyway.)

No different to doing RBT at night. Insurers have nothing to do with it

Speed detection duties at 10.35pm…I thought they weren’t allowed to do that stuff after dark? They can follow you and observe your speed but as for sitting there with the laser and then stepping out in front of you in the dark – I thought the insurers didn’t allow it…..

Actually its not the insurers. They need a note from their parents

well what’s the go vg?…..are they allowed to conduct these ops after dark or not? i’m sure i’ve seen it occur many times but cant think of a recent occassion

Interesting to see that the police are now making an effort to do something about bikie gangs since the recent murders. Only because it’s in the public eye I’m assuming.

“I imagine that police-bloke with the funny voice will be on the local news tonight, being disappointed with those northside drivers.”

His name is Daryl Neit and if you’d seen as many dead bodies as he has as a result of car accidents you’d be permanently disappointed

What do the insurers have to do with anything?

I think it must be that the NRMA, AAMI, Allianz, etc got together to stop police stepping out in front of cars at night as the resulting collision was causing too much damage to the cars, thus putting insurance premiums up.

New anti outlaw motorcycle group law just in

If you are an associate of a Biker (ie: Rebels), police can search and question you without question.

Stay low!

You idiot….

Do the new laws give teh police more ability to go after bikies they’ve probably known about for a while? I was figuring that they knew who was up to what, but the old laws required them to have more proof etc before they could move in on them?

I know they have always been targeted, but never as much as they are now.

You assume wrong. Bikies have and always will be targeted by police. Nothing has changed, but there is more media attention now due to the recent murders and the bikie wars in Sydney.

Interesting to see that the police are now making an effort to do something about bikie gangs since the recent murders. Only because it’s in the public eye I’m assuming.

What is this mythical new law you speak of?
