1. Road spikes catch teeny car thieves:

ACT Policing officers were required to deploy road spikes in order to apprehend four juveniles in a stolen car on Saturday night (August 22).

Around 10.40pm, Tuggeranong General Duties police on patrol in Barraclough Crescent, Monash, attempted a traffic stop on a white Ford Laser. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued through Gowrie and Fadden.

Stop sticks were deployed in Fadden which deflated the two tyres on the driver’s side of the car, and the occupants then attempted to flee on foot. The pursuit was around six minutes in duration. The vehicle had been identified as stolen from a Gordon address earlier that evening.

Three juveniles – a 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl – were quickly apprehended. General Duties, Specialist Response and Security, and K9 teams then searched the surrounding area.

Another 14-year-old boy was later apprehended and will be charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving without a licence, failing to stop, and reckless driving.

The other youths will be charged with riding in a stolen motor vehicle.

All were released into the custodial care of their parents and will be summonsed to appear in court on a later date.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have any information about this incident which could assist the police investigation to contact Crime Stoppers.

2. shooting speed and racing up footpaths:

ACT Policing has arrested a 37-year-old Downer man after a short vehicle pursuit in Braddon and Reid today (August 24).

Around 12.30am police became involved in a pursuit with a white Subaru Impreza after the driver failed to stop. The pursuit took place in the area of Ainslie Avenue, Elimatta Street, Batman Street, Doonkuna Street and Allambee Street, as well as the laneway in between Allawah and Currong Flats.

During the pursuit an unidentified passenger managed to exit the vehicle in the area of Allawah Flats. The driver continued attempting to evade police until he came to a dead end and ran from the vehicle. The alleged offender was apprehended a short distance away near the intersection of Elimatta Street and Ainslie Avenue, Reid.

The motor vehicle was confirmed as stolen and during a search of it police located a syringe containing a substance suspected to be an amphetamine (speed).

The alleged offended will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (August 24) charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, failing to stop when requested by police, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, driving a vehicle unlicensed, possessing a drug of dependence and property damage.

Lanyon Valley really has become a bit of a teen ghetto. Very overt how the teenagers trudge around the dim footpaths at 10pm or later in dark clothing smoking gosh knows what.

Farnarkler I agree.

I have to say well done though.

The Courts will let them down but the public can congratulate them when applicable.

Risking your life to catch a crook who will get a slap on the wrists?

Hardly seems worth it but, nobody makes them do it (cops that is).

Nosey it is well done to the cops who caught them but it’ll all be undone by the spineless judiciary and the criminals will plead horrible childhoods and get off with a slap on the wrist. They’ll be out on the streets in a week. A good dose of corporal punishment is the answer.

Am I alone in thinking that these little sh!ts need a swingeing penalty imposed on them AND their parents?

Why is there not a law for under age driving.

Why would there need to be? As you said yourself: he can’t have a licence, so he’s already in breach of the law. Why make another law that covers exactly the same case? Most people seem to think there’s too much legislation around already – you, on the other hand, are calling for more legislation to make things illegal that are already illegal? Surely we have better things to spend money on…

And, taking a vehicle without consent?!?!? Its not as though he asked the owner and they refused, and he took it anyway.

No, you’re right, it’s not like that. However, he didn’t have consent – whether he sought consent or not is irrelevant. Therefore he “took the vehicle without consent”. I really don’t see what’s so funny/odd about either of these.

Well done to the Police who caught the bloke.

LOL:
Another 14-year-old boy was later apprehended and will be charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving without a licence, failing to stop, and reckless driving.
Why is there not a law for under age driving. Of course he will be charged with driving without a licence, if he can’t get one. And, taking a vehicle without consent?!?!? Its not as though he asked the owner and they refused, and he took it anyway.

Anyway, why aren’t these kids at home in bed. Maybe charge the parents with “failing the control a juvenile who is not an adult”
