1. Aggravated robberies down south:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to two attempted aggravated robberies Friday July 24, in which masked offenders confronted staff members at separate retail premises, one at Erindale and another at Chapman, but in both instances fled without stealing property.

Around 4.40am July 24, two offenders – one wearing a “scream” mask and another in a black balaclava – approached the glass door at the rear of the McDonalds restaurant in Erindale. A member of the cleaning staff saw them approach the locked door and immediately notified management.

When the staff returned to the door, the men were seen fleeing the location, running in the direction of the nearby Mobil Service Station.

Around 6.07am, Police Operations received a report that two offenders wearing the same masks had confronted the manager of a supermarket in Chapman, but then left the premises abruptly. Police quickly responded and searched the immediate area but were unable to locate the offenders.

In both instances, the victims reported that one of the offenders appeared to be brandishing a rifle, although details of the firearm are unclear.

The offender in the “scream” mask was a male also wearing black pants, a black-and-white top, and white sneakers. He was armed with a yellow-handled screwdriver.

The offender in the black balaclava was wearing a black hooded top, black tracksuit pants and black gloves. He may have been carrying a firearm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen persons acting suspiciously at either of these locations early this morning persons to contact Crime Stoppers.

2. Idiots throwing rocks at buses:

ACT Policing is investigating three separate incidents involving ACTION buses since Wednesday night (July 22).

About 8.40pm on Wednesday, the driver of a bus travelling southbound on Gooreen Street, Braddon noticed a white sedan travelling in the opposite direction. As the car passed, an object struck the front windscreen of the bus causing impact damage however, the object did not penetrate the windscreen.

About 9pm, police attended the Civic bus interchange at East Row in response to a report of property damage. The driver of the second bus saw a dark-coloured sedan, possibly with three persons on board, from which an object, possibly a rock, was thrown. The object hit the driver’s side front window, causing it to shatter.

About 8.30pm yesterday (Thursday, July 23), a third bus was travelling along Clive Steele Avenue in Monash when it was struck by a small shifting spanner which smashed through the rear window of the bus. The driver of the bus saw a white Nissan Pulsar sedan containing three male occupants, one of which leant out from the passenger’s side of the vehicle when he threw the spanner.

No-one was injured as a result of the incidents.

Police searched areas of interest but were unable to locate the vehicles. As part of its investigation, ACT Policing is working with ACTION to obtain and review any CCTV footage from the damaged buses.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incidents, who may know the offenders or who may have seen any vehicle matching the descriptions to contact Crime Stoppers.

3. The makings of a major party busted in Richardson:

ACT Policing has seized a large quantity of fireworks and a prohibited weapon during a search warrant at a Richardson home yesterday (July 23).

Police executed the Drugs of Dependence Act (DODA) search warrant on the residence in response to information received.

Around 12.30pm, ACT Policing’s Specialist Response and Security (SRS), K9 Team and General Duties officers secured then searched the premises. During the search police seized several bags containing a small amount of a substance suspected to be cannabis, several small clip sealed bags of a substance suspected to be methyl amphetamine (ice), a high-powered crossbow and a large quantity of commercial-grade fireworks believed to be stolen.

SRS Bomb Response officers attended and inspected the fireworks before they were removed and secured.

A 37-year-old Richardson man is assisting police with their inquiries.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

lol, “aggravated robberies” your kidding, I would hardly call a cleaner spotting someone in a scream mask an aggravated robbery.

Maybe you missed the part about the rifle.

But on a serious note, with McDonald’s joining the outlets opened 24hrs it’s just a greater opportunity for the robbers to get easy cash. And I have to ask the question, is there enough patronage to make operating at 3am in the morning profitable? Guess so, else they wouldn’t be doing it.

Despite what some public servants think, Canberra doesnt shut down at 7pm when the local shops shut, and re-start at 8am in the morning. Canberra has an active night-life, its just that due to the lack of places to go or things to do, those others out and about arent really aware of it. If you want to find out for yourself, try getting into the drive-thru at mcdonalds at 3am. I normally find the queue lining up at 3am is the same or longer than the queue lining up at 7pm for dinner, often having 4 or more cars in the drive-thru.

People seem to forget that the workforce that caters to those who work 9-5 (hospitality, transport, health professionals, etc), obviously dont finish until later in the evening. When those workers finish at midnight or later, the last thing we feel like doing is going home to cook, when McDonalds drive-thru is easier and quicker.
/sorry, threadjack, but Im surprised there arent more 24hr facilities in Canberra.

Oh, don’t worry, JW. I’m sure no-one will ever link it back to Loui.

2. IdiotsTerrorists throwing rocks at buses:

Authorities should take a tougher stance on these low-lifes.

I wouldn’t call the first one an attempted aggravated robbery

It was the Chasers again!
