1. Mawson collision explained:

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating a three vehicle collision which has resulted in a 24-year-old man being arrested.

A mobile Traffic Operations Officer was on patrol in the Mawson area around 2.20pm today (June 23) when he recorded a Suzuki Swift allegedly traveling over 140km/h in the 60km/h zone on Beasley Street. Police will allege that upon sighting the officer the offender accelerated away running a red light at the intersection of Athlon Drive and Beasley Street colliding with a vehicle, which in turn collided with a third vehicle.

The driver was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital for minor injuries and remains there under police guard. His female passenger is currently being treated for a broken leg. The occupants of the two other vehicles were treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service and two occupants were conveyed to The Canberra Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The alleged offender will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (June 24) charged with culpable driving causing grievous bodily harm, failing to stop when requested by police and breaching his bail conditions.

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the circumstances prior to the collision and is yet to speak to police, to contact Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

It always seems to be the same scum…over &amd; over again.

Yes, the person in question has been in and out of the justice sytem since he was a young person.
An example of ‘the sytsem’ not working.
Such a horrible situation.
I hope everyone recovers and am just glad that he didn’t kill somebody.

So he took a DC vehicle off the road?

Every cloud . . .

I drove past it twice yesterday – the swift was definitely the one with the roof cut off (it was green, and I looked closely because one of my brothers drives a little green car!).

One of the others involved had DC plates.

Out of interest, where did you hear this?

One of the things the Police have told us RFS Guys where “studies” have found that kiddies go out looking when the sirens are, so a cop car doing 140k’s through a school zone & kids running out to see the noise don’t always mix.

But I know that the offender was heading to Torrens Primary school as all emergency service vechiles are to do the posted 40k limit in school zones & turn off sirens/flashing lights. So if the offender had a green light he would of got away. I am not condoning what the ******, *********, ******* did, but I’ve been told that.

Sooo, what exactly are you trying to say ??

Maybe the guy who was on here a few weeks ago with his “NOS powered” Barina changed the badges to Suzuki Swift GTi ones to make it go even faster? I can only hope it was him…

That would explain the 88 mph. Wasn’t the guy who had the Barina named Marty McFly? Where is that guy? Why didn’t he stop this happening?

Not suprisingly, the guy responsible had bail refused: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/06/24/2607566.htm

I saw the results of the crash from the bus on my way home, and I’m surprised that no-one was killed. All three cars were totaled and it looked like at least two of them had been flipped over.

I smell a flux capacitor.

He’s a flux-wit at the very least.

Badge engineering is a noble craft.

I wonder why he bolted from the cops in the first place?

I am with ‘Thoroughly Smashed’, it sounds like you know some detail? Did you know the dickhead?

I drive a swift! My little car doesnt like going fast though. On the plus side – i am going to survive a massive collision if i am ever in one!

They forgot to mention that the roof had to be removed from one vechile & the offenders car was the best off in the collision.

When I drove past neither of the two “intact” vehicles were a Suzuki Swift, so by inference the offender’s vehicle was the one that had its roof removed.

Maybe it was his girlfriend’s, and she was too stoned to drive.

# 1 Posted by Morgan – What is a 24 year old bloke driving a Suzuki Swift anyway, thats suspicious in iteself and reason enough for the police to stop and question him

Hahaha, very true!

No way. The Suzuki Swift was mushed. I thought he must have been dead.

Greivous bodily harm means this spanner has inflicted serious life altering injuries on someone, I’m guessing his passenger. Why is it the driver responsible for these crashes always survives relatively unharmed when others are seriously injured or killed as a result.

Skid, you were right. Once he got that baby up to 88 miles per hour, he saw some serious s#&t. Must have had a tail wind.

They forgot to mention that the roof had to be removed from one vechile & the offenders car was the best off in the collision. Also I’ll mention that an ambulance was called to the scene at 14:37, I know this as I was sitting next to it at the Yamba Dr/Hindmarsh Dr lights when it sped down Yamba Dr.

Even the three cylinder version would see 140km/h if in reasonable condition. The standard 1.3 would see perhaps 150km/h, and the sports version around 180km/h.

Not much power, but light…

140kph = 88 miles per hour…
I smell a flux capacitor.

Keeping scum in prison breaches their “Human Rights”, didn’t you know?

Never mind the Human Rights of the innocent injured by the scum.

He must have have strapped one of them Darwin-Award-Winning JTOL packs on the back of his Suzuki Swift to get it up to 140.

A Suzuki Swift? Aren’t they 3 cylinder and incapable of going above 90?
