1. ACT Policing wants you to know they’re supporting white ribbon day today. That is the UN designated International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

2. Police are alarmed that Canberra might chronicle a record number of drink driving offences this year. Better pull some cars off the road?

ACT Policing has reviewed statistics over the past four financial years for drink driving with disturbing results. Even this early in the financial year, Canberra is facing the prospect of a record number of drink driving offences being detected.

“Since July 2004 we have seen an increase of more than a third of drunk drivers detected, rising from 1093 in 2004/05 to 1584 for the 2007/08 financial year. So far this year, there have already been 120 more drivers detected for the July to November period than the same period last year.”

Traffic Operations Superintendent Mark Colbran said “The message does not seem to be getting through, that we are targeting drink driving in all areas of Canberra. Getting caught for drink-driving is not bad luck, it’s a crime!”

“ACT Policing has been working closely with the ACT Government to ensure Canberra’s roads are safe, but this is not just an issue for Police and the Govt. Road Safety is the responsibility of all Canberrans. I urge all members of our community to contribute to this goal by looking after each other and not letting friends drink and drive.

“With Operation RAID (Remove All Impaired Drivers) now in full swing police will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers all over the capital including across the border into New South Wales,” Superintendent Colbran said.

3. If you’re driving a stolen car, it’s best not to crash.

ACT Policing has arrested two juveniles following a single vehicle collision of a stolen motor vehicle in Evatt last night (November 23).

Around 6.20pm police responded to a report of a number of males breaking into a motor vehicle in an underground car park of an apartment complex in Thynne Street, Bruce.

As police arrived, a secondary report was received of the single vehicle collision at the intersection of Ginninderra Drive and William Webb Drive, Evatt. Five males were seen running from the vehicle.

Police were quickly on scene where a 1990 Nissan 180SX coupe had collided with a traffic light and sustained extensive damage.

Officers formed a unified approach resulting in the apprehension of the five alleged male offenders.

One of the alleged offenders, aged 16 from Watson, was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving and unlicensed driving. Another of the alleged offenders, aged 17 from Calwell, was charged with riding a motor vehicle without consent and going equipped for theft. Both will appear before the ACT Children’s Court this morning (November 24).

The three other occupants of the vehicle were released and will be summonsed to appear before the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.

Did tht scary Policeman eat his female partner again?

Obviously that was meant to read ‘police car’, smartypants.

Also, there are significantly more police on the road this year, leading to more patrols and more chance of the dickheads who drink and drive being caught. Serves ’em right.

Farkin lil scumbags. They see a nice car and can’t be bothered working to own one so they just steal it instead.

Off with their hands I say!

“Firies had to cut the side off the police to get the police woman out.”

It’s also a good idea not to crash if you’re driving a police car…

Surely there’s got to be more to this one?

Nasty nasty crash… Firies had to cut the side off the police to get the police woman out.

Someone managed to roll their car down an embankment in the rebuilt Glenloch Interchange this morning – just after the point where the onramp from Parkes Way joins the lane from the Tuggeranong Parkway heading north.

“You go that way and I’ll go that way”….god love em!

Good to know they didn’t all just wander off and do their own thing.
